Tanglewood Moms Gives Back: Snowball Express
This month, Tanglewood Moms gives back to Snowball Express. Since 2006, the mission of Snowball Express has been a simple, yet profoundly important one: provide hope and new happy memories to the children of fallen military heroes who have died while on active duty since 9/11. They bring children together from all over the world for a four-day experience filled with fun activities, like sporting events, dances, amusement parks and more. Parents of children of the fallen often tell of how their child is reserved, withdrawn or unwilling to talk about their loss. Participating in Snowball Express changes them, making each child feel special and giving them an opportunity to share their feelings about losing something so precious, their parent.
Nationally, Snowball Express provides comprehensive support programs for fallen families that are focused on transition and connections to community resources, healing and wellness, peer engagement, education, and personal/professional development programs. Using a volunteer team, Snowball Express creates a weekend of events to connect the children and surviving spouses of the fallen with others going through the same experience. The children who attend this annual event walk away knowing they are not alone, and that the sacrifice their parents made serving their country is remembered and honored. Children often return year after year to reunite with the friends they have made through Snowball Express.
Would you and your family like to participate in this heartwarming experience? You are invited to join the mission with a donation. A donation changes the lives of families who have lost a loved one protecting our nation. With your contribution, heartbroken children who have seen their darkest hour receive something they need: happy new memories and love. In addition, your support honors the fallen who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
If you prefer, you can join in the Snowball Express’s annual Walk of Gratitude, which is coming up fast. On Sunday, December 10th, bring your family and friends to the Fort Worth Stockyards to participate in this moving event. During this special time, the children who are participating in this year’s Snowball Express are invited to write the name of their parent or parents who have been lost onto a balloon. The balloons are then launched all together into the sky. It’s an emotional time for all who participate and all who are there to show their support. Please come and join! This is a wonderful way to show the children in your life that you can make a difference in the lives of others.
