The Joys of Secondhand Threads
The appeal to shopping secondhand is increasing in popularity these days. Whether it is inspired by financial prudence, environmental benefits, or simply to add to one’s vintage and eclectic wardrobe — there are numerous reasons as to why thrifting can be a lot of fun!
When I was a novice thrift shopper, I was somewhat apprehensive of the benefits shopping second-hand clothing could yield. I wondered, “Doesn’t second-hand mean worn, dated, and picked over fashion?” I learned the answer to that is a whole-hearted NO! All throughout Fort Worth are hidden gems of thrift stores full of name brand, trendy, and previously loved clothing items. Granted, if you’re looking for something like your grandmother’s muumuus or a crazy Christmas sweater, you’ll have no trouble finding those too!
But I am here to tell you that thrifting in Fort Worth may pleasantly surprise you with what you can find. Not only is it a bargain find for you, but it also helps local charities and businesses who in turn, benefit from your patronage. If I’ve piqued your interest so far, then read below for a list of my favorite thrift shops in the great city of Fort Worth:
This unique store has been around for as long as I can remember! Their unique and color-coded clothing racks make it simple to find just what you’re looking for to spruce up your and your family’s wardrobes. It is probably my favorite place to find clothes for my daughter and I have been amazed at how many NWT items I have scored. They also have wide array of home goods to check out.
An Extension of the non-profit, Safe-Haven, this thrift store uses their donations to not only benefit the public with affordable goods, but they also use their donations for women and their family escaping domestic abuse. Whether shopping or donating, you’re helping an amazing cause in your local community.
HALTOM THRIFT
This is another staple that has just about everything. It may be my favorite stop for women’s clothing as I’ve often found beloved brands such as Madewell, Ivy City Co, Loft and more! Haltom Thrift regularly has discounted tags and sales that are also worth checking out.
DIRT CHEAP
While not exactly a thrift store, Dirt Cheap is a treasure trove of retail overstock, discontinued and returned items. A good majority of their clothing consists of Target brands, Gap and Old Navy. So next time you need a pair of Target jeans, a new handbag or fun dress, visit this place first as their racks are plentiful. They also carry a surplus of home goods from furniture to home improvement and more.
GOODWILL
This goes without saying, really. But Goodwill stores are plentiful and often on the smaller price tag spectrum when you’re on the hunt for a real bargain. Not to mention, it is one of my favorite stores to find rare vintage pieces and beautiful antiques.
THIRD SISTER THRIFT
Last but certainly not least, business owner Mercy Call offers a unique extension to thrifting — she thrifts for you! Much like stitch fix, she shops a full wardrobe of thrifted items for your body and your style to make you feel as beautiful as you truly are! This is a wonderful resource for those who need some guidance on a wardrobe refresh or may not have the time necessary to shop for their closest needs. If you’re looking for a different approach to personalized shopping, Third Sister Thrift just might be the gal for you to jumpstart a new and beautiful look.
