March is one of the most glorious months in Cowtown. There’s so much to do and see and experience as a family. It’s also spring break for a lot of schools, and we’ve gathered some of the most fun spring break camps in town, so be sure to bookmark this page to refer to all month long!
Butterflies in the Garden
March 1 – April 14
Fort Worth Botanic Garden
Witness the magnificent transformation of nature and marvel at the sight of brilliantly colored living jewels fluttering in the Rainforest Conservatory of Fort Worth Botanic Garden during Butterflies in the Garden. Don’t miss the opportunity to see the largest exhibit of live, exotic butterflies in North Central Texas! Exhibit visitors will have the chance to see a diverse collection of butterflies from various parts of the world, including Central, North and South America, Africa, and Asia. The Blue Morpho (Morpho peleides), known for its striking beauty, is one of the most popular butterflies on display. Additionally, local favorites will also be showcased.

FWSO Presents Beethoven Lives Upstairs

The world-famous production of Beethoven Lives Upstairs features a lively exchange of letters between young Christoph and his uncle. Their subject: the “madman” who has moved into the upstairs apartment of Christoph’s Vienna home. Through a touching correspondence, dramatically underscored with the composer’s most beautiful excerpts, Christoph slowly comes to understand the genius of Beethoven and the beauty of his music. Audiences are captivated by more than twenty-five excerpts of Beethoven’s music. The music is magically woven into the drama as two actors share anecdotes and observations based on true incidents from the composer’s life.

ART BREAK! Spring Break at the Modern

The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth
Take an ART Break with family programming at the Modern while your school-aged children are on Spring Break, March 11-15. Slow down, stop, and learn a little bit more about some of your favorite works from the Modern’s permanent collection and special exhibition, Surrealism and Us: Caribbean and African Diasporic Artists since 1940. Each ART Break station includes a conversation with a community artist and Modern docent and a gallery project focusing on selected works in the galleries. On our free days, Monday and Friday, join your family and others in helping build collaborative works. Even though you can’t touch the art (!), we have fun designed for the whole family to enjoy together. Get your creative energy flowing as you spend time with the Modern’s collection of paintings, photographs, sculpture, and video.

This Spring Break, we’re shaking things up for kids aged 6-18 at KWC! Forget the usual break routine – we’re bringing the excitement of Musical Theatre to life! Your child won’t just be passing time; they’ll be stepping into a week where singing, acting, and dancing are the main events. It’s a chance for them to explore and express in a way they never have before! Our camp days are like opening a new, exciting book each morning. It’s a place where kids with a knack for performance, or even just a hint of interest in the arts, can really feel at home. We’re creating a welcoming space for all – no matter their experience level – to try something new, make friends, and most importantly, have a ton of fun!

They say laughter is the best medicine! It releases endorphins and strengthens our resiliency to stress. It increases oxygen intake, making us feel more focused and energized. In a time when kids are under more academic and social pressure than ever before, it’s important to remember to just have FUN! This program introduces kids to witty pieces of classical music and shows how even serious composers let loose once in a while. So bring your family and friends for a free interactive, educational concert! Cliburn Kids on the Road presents “Laugh Out Loud,” a program that finds the funny in whimsical songs. This event is presented in partnership with Fort Worth Public Library.

Round up the family for an entire day of Irish-Western fun! Featuring festive food & drink, live music, armadillo races, lawn games, pony rides, Old West Gunfight shows, cloggers & dance troops, a special matinee Stockyards Championship Rodeo at 1:30PM and a spectacular Irish-Western parade at 4PM. All this in addition to the twice daily cattle drives.

Join us in Fort Worth’s Near Southside Cultural District for a day celebrating blackness in American roots music! The sound of old-time music is considered by many to be quintessentially American, yet the extensive Black influence – from the creation of the banjo and fiddle traditions to the roots of social dances performed alongside the music – is not widely acknowledged. The Fort Worth African American Roots Music Festival (FWAAMFest) aims to change that. Featuring a show-stopping lineup of award-winning artists from across North America, it is the only major city festival of its kind in the United States, Black-led and centered on Black artists reclaiming their place in roots music through preservation and innovation.

North Texas’ Largest Celebration of Holi Draws 10,000 for Annual Festival Holi, the Hindu festival of colors, is recognized world-wide as a major celebration of spring. In North Texas, Holi Mela – Dallas Festival of Colors is the largest celebration of its kind and draws thousands of revelers bridging age, race, religion and belief for the first time to Fort Worth’s Panther Island to celebrate inclusion and diversity. The festival will celebrate its 14th year in DFW and a 1st for Fort Worth on Saturday, March 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Birth families splinter and online families collide in this beautiful play that reminds us of the power of connection and the value of forgiveness. Water by the Spoonful is a heartfelt meditation on lives on the brink of redemption.

Fort Works Art
“POSIES” at Fort Works Art promises an eclectic journey through nature’s poetry as interpreted by an esteemed ensemble of artists. Running from March 23, 2024, to May 4, 2024, this exhibition will allow visitors to enter a tapestry of flora, fauna, crystals, and other forms of nature, celebrating the resilience and beauty inherent in the world. The exhibition boasts a diverse roster of artists, including Alonsa Guevara, Will Heron, Jay Wilkinson, Erika Duque Scully, Eric Inkala, Crystal Wagner, Michele Tejuola Spindle, Tim Tyler, Elena Rodriguez, James Zigras, and Kerri Menchaca.
