We started Worthy Convos to highlight people doing good and interesting things in our community. Katherine Curtis has been a Tanglewood Moms Friend for years, so we were extremely excited when Casa Mañana announced that they had hired her as their Vice President of Marketing. Katherine graciously made time to talk to me just weeks after she started the job, and boy, was it worth it!

Tanglewood Moms: Congratulations, Ms. Vice President of Marketing! You’re a longtime friend of Tanglewood Moms and Madeworthy, but I would love to introduce you to our members and readers who might not be aware of your awesomeosity. Can you tell us a little bit about your personal and professional background?

Katherine Curtis: Thanks, Lee. I’m blushing. First and foremost, I’m a Horned Frog! TCU is how I first arrived in Fort Worth in the late 1900s (as the kids say today), and I absolutely fell in love with the city. I officially called Fort Worth home in 2005 and have worked in the non-profit world in both fundraising and marketing ever since. I’ve had the honor of being a graduate of Leadership Fort Worth’s Leading Edge program, a board member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Fort Worth Metro Chapter, Junior League Fort Worth, TCU Alumni Association Fort Worth Chapter, and, most recently, Laundry Love Fort Worth. I also serve as a BuildStrong Ambassador for Trinity Habitat for Humanity and as a member of the Fort Worth Advisory Council of The Salvation Army. Growing up in Memphis, TN, my mom volunteered (and still does) and would often take me with her, so giving back to my community is ingrained into who I am. The fact that I also get to give back through my professional career is simply the icing on the cake. When I’m not at work or volunteering, I’m at the soccer field with my husband, watching our 15-year-old son play goalie for his club team, where I’m also the team manager. I really don’t know how not to be busy.

TWM: I know that you’re not even a month into your role, but what do you think your biggest challenge will be in marketing live theater in an increasingly digital world?

KC: The biggest challenge, I think, is encouraging people to put down the screen and come see the show live! So much can be viewed digitally now, including theatre. But the experience of sitting in the audience and watching the actors live will never be replaced by a screen. Emotions hit differently when in person, plus live theatre makes a great date night or family outing. The energy that fills the Dome during a live performance – the music, the acting, the audience – brings the stage to life in a way that never happens on screen, even in a movie theater. Plus, supporting your local theatre supports the local community, which, for me, is always a big win.

TWM: You are in charge of promoting all of Casa Mañana’s programs – Broadway, children’s theater, the programs at the Reid Cabaret, and all of the educational programs. How different are your approaches to promoting each program?

KC: The beauty of Casa Mañana is that there is a show for every type of theatre patron. Our Cabaret offers an intimate evening performance of live music, great for a girls’ night out or date night. Our Broadway Season brings actors from New York to Fort Worth, teams them with local actors, and creates local productions of award-winning shows. And our Children’s Theatre Season is a fantastic introduction to the theatre, with shorter shows that are always family-friendly. When promoting our various seasons, I don’t think about the different audiences as much as I think about the different experiences patrons will have.

One of the components of Casa Mañana that I’ve truly loved learning more about is the School for Musical Theatre. The classes offered throughout the year welcome students as young as pre-K. Whether you are interested in acting, dancing, or singing, there is a class for all aspects of musical theatre, led by industry professionals. Marketing these programs to schools, theatre departments, and our patrons with children brings Casa Mañana full circle, as children enjoying shows on the main stage can become the actors on it.

TWM: What is Casa Mañana doing to make theater more accessible to all of Fort Worth?

KC: I love this question because I had no idea we offered any of this until I started on staff – and I want everyone to know.

We are currently in the process of becoming sensory-friendly-certified through Kulture City for our Children’s Theatre productions. Certain Sunday morning performances of the Children’s Theatre shows are sensory-friendly. There are certain aspects of each show that can be adjusted to make the experience more enjoyable for children and adults with sensory sensitivity, whether in sound, lighting, or stage actions, as well as the lobby experience, which creates a sensory-friendly environment from the moment patrons walk through the doors.

For our Broadway productions, Tuesday evening performances are ASL-interpreted. Knowing that more individuals use ASL to communicate means we are reaching a new group of patrons by offering ASL interpreted shows.

My favorite aspect of our accessibility program, which is part of our School for Musical Theatre, is the All Abilities Class. This year-long class brings together a variety of ages and abilities to learn musical theatre and wraps up with a production of their own. My second week on the job, I attended this year’s All Abilities Class production of The Sound of Music. I was blown away. Their friends and family filled the theatre. The actors were in full costume, singing, dancing, and acting out the well-known show. I still smile when I think of this performance. Many of the students in this class return year after year

TWM: Next season’s Broadway shows are pretty amazing! What is something that you want our readers to know about the season?

KC: I am excited about next season and my first full season at Casa Mañana! Season tickets are on sale now, and it’s the easiest way to guarantee your seat to Frozen. The season starts with Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of Temptations in September, Frozen in November, and 2027 brings us Dear Evan Hansen in February and Beautiful: The Carol King Musical in May. Our Broadway shows mix New York Broadway actors with our local talent, bringing the show to life on a set created right here in Fort Worth. Casa Mañana has its own scene production crew, costume department, and props department. The team behind each of our shows lives and works right here in Fort Worth. It’s a beautiful blend of New York and Fort Worth’s finest, bringing the magic of the stage to life.

TWM: Can you give us a peek at the 2026-2027 Children’s Theater season?

KC: Our Children’s Theatre includes four shows starting in October with Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale. Our holiday show, A Christmas Carol, is a new musical production created by Casa Mañana based on the holiday classic. We kick off 2027 with Shrek the Musical in January and wrap up the season with Finding Nemo in March. And those who purchase season tickets now have the option to add on Frozen before individual tickets go on sale, which is the best way to secure your seat.

The beauty of the Children’s Theatre Season is that the shows truly are created with children in mind. They are, on average, an hour and a half with an intermission – perfect for a young theatre patron. And, with our Children’s Theatre shows, squirming in your seat is fully allowed.

TWM: Why should someone buy season tickets instead of purchasing tickets for a single show?

KC: Here are my top three reasons to purchase season tickets this year:

Season tickets guarantee your seat for each show. If you like a schedule, you know when your show will be and where you will be sitting.

There are special add-on shows you can purchase before they go on sale to the general public. For Broadway Season tickets, you can add on the one-night only The Music of Elton John (with tickets selling quickly) and our Apprentice Program production of Blood Brothers. For Children’s Theatre Season tickets, you can add Frozen, which is the best way to secure seats for this Disney favorite.

By supporting Casa Mañana with season tickets, you are supporting your local Fort Worth theatre- the artists, the crews, and the community that comes together to bring theatre to life.

TWM: Is there anything new for the 2026-2027 season that our readers should know about?

KC: The fun new part of the Children’s Theatre this year is our Casa Mañana Kids Club. With a $250 or more donation, your family can enjoy the Casa Carnival, bringing the magic of the stage into the heart of the building, as well as select benefits themed around each Children’s Theatre show. Through these events, we are creating a new generation of theatre patrons who will grow up to one day support their local theatres themselves.

TWM: And finally, you don’t just work for a theater, you’re a theater lover. What do you say to someone who says that they don’t think live theater is very interesting?

KC: I grew up going to the local theatre in Memphis with my family. My first Broadway show in NYC was The Phantom of the Opera when I was in sixth grade. I have vivid memories of holiday shows in Memphis and the first time watching the chandelier crash during Phantom. These are priceless memories that come to mind every time I think about the theatre.

I also hear people say they don’t believe they would like live theatre or that it’s “not their thing.” What I say to them: “Make the memories. See the shows.” Pick something that interests you and go see that show. Are you a fan of Motown? Get tickets to see Ain’t Too Proud. Do you have kids who love Shrek? Take them to see Shrek the Musical. The beauty of the theatre is that every production is unique to that particular show. Not every show is for every patron, but every potential patron will find a show they truly enjoy.

Tanglewood Moms: Hi, Tristan! Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Tristan Luescher: Hi! My name is Tristan Luescher, and I am a junior at South Hills High School here in Fort Worth. Outside of school and Scouting, I am really into skateboarding, making music, and hanging out with my friends. Music is something I am genuinely passionate about, and I spend a lot of my free time working on it. It is something I hope to pursue in the future.

TWM: Can you tell us a little about your history with Scouting?

TL: I have been in Scouting for most of my life. I started in Cub Scouts when I was around 5 years old and worked my way through the program before crossing over into Boy Scouts at around age 10. I have been with Troop 554 here in Fort Worth under the Longhorn Council ever since. Over the years, I have taken on more responsibility within the troop and worked my way through the ranks to Life Scout, which is where I am now. Eagle Scout is the final and highest rank, and my service project is the last major requirement to earn it.

TWM: How has Scouting affected you, and how has it changed the way you interact with people and the world?

TL: Scouting has taught me a lot of practical skills, such as how to handle myself in the outdoors, how to be prepared for just about anything, and how to stay calm when things do not go according to plan. But honestly, the bigger impact has been on how I see other people. Scouting really pushes you to think beyond yourself and to look for ways to help those around you. I think it has made me more patient, more understanding, and more aware of the world outside my own bubble. A lot of those things are hard to learn in a classroom.

TWM: Please tell us about your Eagle Scout project.

TL: My Eagle Scout project is called “Pack It Forward: One Bag at a Time.” I am assembling 1,000 Blessing Bags for individuals experiencing homelessness in Fort Worth. Each bag is packed with essentials, including two water bottles, electrolyte packets, a granola bar, beef jerky, mixed nuts, fruit snacks, peanut butter crackers, and cookies. Items that are easy to carry and provide real nutrition and hydration throughout the day. The bags will be distributed through two local organizations: Presbyterian Night Shelter and True Worth Place will receive 750 bags, and Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County will receive 250 bags. Every single bag goes directly into the hands of someone in need, and 100% of donations go toward supplies, and nothing is kept by my troop or me.

TWM: Why did you choose to make 1,000 Blessing Bags for the unhoused population of Fort Worth?

TL: I wanted to do something that would make a real and immediate impact on as many people as possible. Fort Worth has around 2,400 people experiencing homelessness, and while our local shelters do amazing work, there are still a lot of people out on the streets who need something portable they can carry with them during the day. A Blessing Bag is simple, but it solves a real problem for someone who has very little. When I thought about what project would put something tangible in the most hands possible, this felt like the right answer. One thousand people will have something because of this project. That means a lot to me.

TWM: How can we help you make those Blessing Bags?

TL: There are two easy ways to help! The first is through my Amazon Wish List, where you can pick specific items that ship directly to us, so even buying one bag of mixed nuts or a box of granola bars makes a real difference when you need 1,000 of everything. The link is amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2RAKJUY7ES4OW. The second way is through our GoFundMe at gofundme.com/f/eagle-scout-project-helping-1000-homeless-in-fort-worth-xcu4u, where cash donations are used to purchase supplies. Every single contribution helps, no matter the size.

TWM: Can you tell us a little about the community packing event on May 31st?

TL: On May 31st, we are hosting a community volunteer packing event at First Church International, located at 1212 S. Grants Lane in Fort Worth, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. That is where everything comes together as volunteers sort and pack all the supplies into the 1,000 bags. All ages are welcome, and it should be a really fun afternoon. We hope to get 40 to 60 volunteers so we can get everything packed as efficiently as possible. The more hands, the better! Krispy Kreme and Little Caesars are generously providing food and drinks for everyone who comes out, so volunteers will definitely be taken care of. The completed bags will then be delivered to our shelter partners on June 1st. WFAA ABC will cover the event.

TWM: How will achieving Eagle Scout affect your role in Scouting? Will you continue?

TL: Eagle Scout is a huge accomplishment and one I have been working toward for a long time. It takes a lot of dedication, and I am proud to be this close to finishing. After I earn the Eagle Scout rank, I plan to stay active in Venturing Crew, the older youth program in Scouting. I want to stay connected and hopefully give back some of what Scouting has given me over the years.

TWM: What are your plans for life after high school?

Music is my biggest passion, and my first goal is to attend a music production school like Full Sail University to pursue it seriously. If that path does not work out, I am also interested in going to trade school to learn a skilled trade. Either way, I want to be doing something I care about and building something for myself.

We were lucky enough to chat with George Robertson, founder of Texas Legacy Florals, along with his wife, Kathy, about Fort Worth’s newest florist soon after their grand opening on April 23.

Tanglewood Moms: Congratulations on the grand opening! Can you tell us the story of Texas Legacy Florals?

George Robertson: Texas Legacy Florals was born out of a season of reflection and calling. After decades in business, I felt a strong pull to create something different, something rooted not just in excellence, but in meaning, beauty, and community.

This isn’t just a flower shop. It’s a space designed to bring people together, to celebrate life’s moments both big and small, and to remind people that beauty still matters. My wife Kathy has been an incredible part of shaping the heart behind it—helping create an environment that feels warm, welcoming, and intentional in every detail.

Texas Legacy Florals is truly a next chapter for us, one that blends creativity, faith, and a desire to leave something meaningful behind for our community.

TWM: Your website says that you combine European floral artistry with Texas warmth and character. What does Texas warmth and character mean to you?

GR: To me, Texas warmth is about how people feel when they walk through the door. It’s genuine. It’s welcoming. It’s generous.

There’s a spirit here; people look you in the eye, they smile, they care. We wanted to capture that in everything we do. While our floral design may draw inspiration from refined European techniques, the experience is unmistakably Texas – approachable, kind, and grounded.

It’s elegance without intimidation. Beauty that invites you in, not keeps you out.

Photo courtesy of Texas Legacy Florals

TWM: Why Texas “Legacy”? What does “legacy” mean to you?

GR: Legacy, to me, is about what remains long after the moment has passed. It’s not just what you build; it’s how you build it, who you impact, and what you leave behind in others.

Texas Legacy Florals is about creating something that matters, something that reflects values like integrity, generosity, faith, and community.

If people walk away feeling encouraged, seen, or inspired, then we’re building something far greater than a business. That’s legacy.

TWM: What sets Texas Legacy Florals apart from other florists?

GR: We approach floral design as both art and experience. Every arrangement, every installation, every detail is intentional.

But beyond the design, what truly sets us apart is the heart behind it. We’re not just creating arrangements—we’re serving people. We’re listening to their stories, understanding their moments, and designing something that reflects that.

There’s also a level of scale and creativity we bring – from large installations to immersive environments – that goes beyond traditional floral work. We want people to walk into a space and feel something.

Photo courtesy of Texas Legacy Florals

TWM: Do you have a signature arrangement? If so, can you describe it?

GR: Our signature style tends to lean toward lush, garden-inspired designs with movement, texture, and depth. We love blending classic blooms like roses with more organic elements: seasonal florals, layered greenery, and unexpected touches that give each piece life.

One of our favorite expressions is what we call a “garden moment,” an arrangement that feels like it was gathered naturally yet refined in a way that elevates the entire space.

It’s not overly structured. It’s alive, flowing, and full of character.

TWM: In describing your approach to weddings and events, you say that you design environments. What does that mean?

GR: It means we look beyond individual arrangements and think about the entire experience.

From the moment a guest arrives at the final impression they leave with, every element works together: the florals, the space, the flow, the focal points. We design with intention so that the environment tells a story.

Florals become part of something bigger. They help shape the atmosphere, create emotion, and bring a vision to life in a way that people don’t just see, they feel.

TWM: How can a good floral arrangement elevate a gathering or an event?

GR: Florals can completely transform a space. They soften it, energize it, and give it personality.

A thoughtfully designed arrangement creates a sense of occasion. It tells your guests, “This moment matters.” It can bring warmth to a room, elegance to a table, or even a sense of joy and celebration that people can’t quite put into words.

It’s often the detail people didn’t expect, but the one they remember.

TWM: Do you use local flower farmers?

GR: Whenever possible, we love incorporating locally sourced flowers. There’s something special about supporting local growers and bringing in elements that reflect the season and the region.

That said, to achieve the level of quality and variety we’re known for, we also source premium stems from top farms around the world. It’s a balance: local when we can, global when it elevates the design.

TWM: I have to say, I love the mural on the side of your building. Can you tell us a little about it?

GR: Thank you. We love it too. The mural is very intentional and deeply symbolic for us.

At first glance, it reflects the strength and character of the cowboy: an image of masculinity that represents humility, resilience, hard work, and a deep respect for the land and for others.

But there’s a deeper layer to it as well.

I believe we’re in a time where masculinity is often misunderstood. True strength isn’t just toughness; it’s the ability to carry responsibility, to lead with humility, and to recognize beauty, not dismiss it.

As a person of faith, I also see something even greater woven into that message. Scripture refers to believers collectively as the “bride,” pointing toward a future celebration when Christ returns.

It all started in the Garden where beauty, design, and purpose were created together. Everything begins with a seed. Strength and beauty were never meant to be divided; they were created to coexist.

My hope is that when people see it, they pause and maybe reconsider what strength and beauty really mean.

TWM: And finally, what’s your favorite flower(s)?

GR: Roses have always been one of my favorites. There’s a timeless beauty to them – elegant and expressive.

But personally, I’ve always been drawn to the Gerbera daisy. It feels joyful, vibrant, and full of life.

Fortunately for all of us, the stigmas surrounding women’s health are beginning to fall, and leading the charge is Dr. Carolyn Moyers of Sky Women’s Health. Dr. Moyers was kind enough to have a Worthy Convo with us. (This is an important Worthy Convo, so don’t click away!)

Tanglewood Moms: What inspired you to found Sky Women’s Health?

Dr. Carolyn Moyers: The name itself tells part of the story. It’s drawn from a Chinese proverb — “Women hold up half the sky” — and from the book Half the Sky, which follows women around the world who have endured unimaginable suffering, often in silence, often without anyone advocating for them. That book stayed with me. I wanted to be part of the solution.

But the professional path to getting here was a decade in the making. I practiced across different settings — traditional OB/GYN, ob hospitalist work, building a gynecology program within a hormone therapy clinic. And across all of it, I kept seeing the same thing: women with real symptoms being dismissed, undertreated, or rushed through a system that wasn’t designed for the complexity of what they were experiencing. Menopause, perimenopause, sexual health — these weren’t being addressed with the seriousness they deserved.

I started dreaming of a place that cared about the details. The experience. The expertise. Somewhere unhurried, where a woman could sit across from her physician and actually be heard.

That’s Sky Women’s Health. And the mission goes beyond the exam room — I want women to be empowered to advocate for themselves, their families, and their communities.

TWM: How does the concierge model allow you to more fully serve your patients?

Dr. Moyers: The concierge model removes the ceiling. In a traditional practice, I might see 25 or 30 patients in a day. There’s simply no way to do justice to something as nuanced as menopause or sexual dysfunction in that structure.

At Sky Women’s Health, our members have direct access to me. Appointments are longer, there’s no rushed handoff, and when something changes — when a symptom evolves or a question comes up between visits — they can reach me. We’re managing their health across time, not just addressing a complaint at a single visit.

It also means I’m not practicing to satisfy an insurance billing code. I’m practicing to get results. That changes everything about how I approach care.

TWM: Can you define perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause?

Dr. Moyers: These three terms get used interchangeably, and they really shouldn’t be.

Perimenopause is the transition — the decade or so leading up to your final menstrual period. This is when most symptoms begin: irregular cycles, heavier or lighter bleeding, sleep disruption, mood changes, brain fog, hot flashes. It’s a gradual, variable process, and it looks different for every woman.

Menopause is technically one day. It’s the point 12 months after your final menstrual period. That’s it. One day in your history.

Postmenopause is everything after that — the remaining decades of your life. This is when certain risks, like bone loss and cardiovascular changes, become increasingly relevant. The conversation doesn’t end at menopause; in many ways, it’s just beginning.

One important note: that definition assumes a woman has a cycle to track — and not every woman does. For those who don’t have periods due to an IUD, endometrial ablation, or hysterectomy, menopause is defined differently. In those cases, we look at FSH levels — a hormone that rises as the ovaries wind down. An elevated FSH on two separate occasions, at least four weeks apart, is how we confirm menopause when cycle tracking isn’t possible.

Photo shared with permission by Sky Women’s Health

TWM: Are there things women in their 30s can do to prepare for menopause?

Dr. Moyers: Eat whole foods. Prioritize sleep. Lift weights — bone density loss starts earlier than most women realize, and muscle mass is protective. Get your annual health checks and use your 30s to establish baselines: blood pressure, lipids, blood sugar, thyroid. These numbers matter in context over time, not just as a single snapshot.

And start paying attention to your body. Perimenopause can begin earlier than you expect — sometimes in your late 30s.

TWM: How does your background as a DO inform your approach to hormonal and sexual health?

Dr. Moyers: My osteopathic training gave me a framework for looking at the whole picture. When a patient comes in with hormonal symptoms, I’m not just looking at one organ system — I’m thinking about sleep, stress, nutrition, relationship context, all of it. Root cause matters, not just symptom management.

My OMT fellowship training also prepared me for hands-on assessment of pelvic floor dysfunction, which is deeply connected to both hormonal and sexual health. These things don’t exist in isolation, and my training reinforced that.

TWM: Why did you start the Sky Women’s Health podcast?

Dr. Moyers: The exam room has limits. There are only so many patients I can see, and so many conversations I can have in a day. The podcast is an extension of those conversations — a way to reach women who may never walk through my door.

My goal is to help women become better advocates for themselves, even if I’m not their physician. If a woman listens to an episode and walks into her next appointment with better questions, then it’s doing exactly what I hoped.

TWM: What’s one thing you wish patients knew that traditional medicine doesn’t teach?

Dr. Moyers: Perimenopause is a clinical diagnosis — and most women don’t know that.

When you come in with real symptoms and your labs come back normal, that isn’t a dead end. It means we’ve ruled out other conditions that can look exactly like perimenopause: thyroid disorders, diabetes, among others. That’s important work. But normal labs do not mean you are not in perimenopause. There is no blood test that confirms it. The diagnosis lives in your symptoms, your cycle history, and your experience.

The second thing: waiting until 65 for a bone density scan is too late. Bone loss accelerates in the years surrounding menopause, and the window for early intervention is earlier than traditional guidelines suggest — especially if you have risk factors like early menopause, family history, low body weight, or long-term use of certain medications.

TWM: What’s one menopause myth you’d like to bust?

Dr. Moyers: Your sexual pleasure matters — and medicine has ignored it for far too long.

Changes in libido, pain with intercourse, decreased arousal and sensation — these are real, common, and treatable. They are not an inevitable part of aging. They are not something to quietly accept. And they are absolutely something your physician should be asking about. If they’re not asking, or not comfortable having that conversation when you bring it up, find someone who will.

To celebrate, the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM), in conjunction with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), established the America 250 City Art Poster Project. In Fort Worth, Mayor Mattie Parker, Fort Works Art, and Gallery of Dreams invited local artists to create posters that celebrate our history while inspiring hope for future Fort Worthians.

The winner, announced last week, was Tealy Kaiser, a senior choir major at I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM & VPA. Not just a choir major, Tealy is also on the school’s winning robotics team and has participated in many art competitions. Her achievements, impressive on their own, are even more impressive once you learn that Tealy was born with two brain abnormalities which led to a diagnosis of epilepsy with accompanying surgeries and ongoing medical supervision (i.e., frequent trips to Houston to consult with her neurologists).

Tealy generously took time from her busy schedule (she’s been bombarded by requests for interviews) to take part in a Worthy Convo.

Tanglewood Moms: Congratulations on your win! What drew you to enter the America 250 City Art Poster Project?

Tealy Kaiser: I’m a fourth generation Fort Worth native, and the contest was something that I was drawn to… I wanted to show our cultural history on the boot proudly.

TWM: Tell us about your vision for your poster.

TK: My poster is a boot that has areas that are significant to Fort Worth on it. [I included] the Botanical Garden, the Water Gardens, downtown Fort Worth, the Stockyards, Frog Fountain, and blue bonnets. I felt that a boot is a significant representation of Fort Worth, and it tells our history. Colors on the boot… represent the Texas flag, and the date when it was established is found on the pull strap. The shape of Texas is found on the front of the boot with a longhorn marking where Cowtown is.

TWM: According to the VERY official press release that Fort Works Art Gallery sent about your win, your design, Cowtown Bootin Scootin, captures “the traditional, yet evolving spirit of Fort Worth.” How did you balance honoring our city’s traditions and history while making a piece of contemporary art?

TK: I tried balancing both by keeping traditional Fort Worth elements like the Western culture and movement clearly recognizable, while using modern style, color, and composition to make it feel current. My boot honors the past and the present with how Fort Worth is evolving today.

TWM: Did your heritage influence how you approached celebrating Fort Worth’s history and future?

TK: Since I am fourth generation [Fort Worth native], I wanted to make sure I added in details that I’ve known since I was little girl into this boot that had a special meaning or memory.

TWM: Is there a particular detail in your design that you’re secretly proud of?

TK: I feel like the detail that I am most proud of is combining all these historical landmarks [into something that’s] not overwhelming and too chaotic at the same time. It was very hard, combining all these historical landmarks together into one boot.

Tealy at the unveiling of the Lowden mural, which she helped to create with her classmates

TWM: You’re a senior choir major at I.M. Terrell, yet you do lots of visual art AND you’re on the school’s robotics team. On top of all that, you’ve become an advocate for epilepsy awareness, a disease you have lived with for most if not all of your life. How in the world do you balance it all?

TK: I balance all this by using my time wisely – making sure I’m not missing school events, and making sure dates don’t line up against each other regarding my academics and obligations. I try to be open about my epileptic journey to help others that struggle with the stigma surrounding it.

TWM: What does the future hold for Tealy Kaiser?

TK: Right now, I’m undecided between UTA and TCU. Both universities offered scholarship options. UTA awarded me the Presidential Honors Scholarship! TCU is seven minutes from my home, which is certainly convenient. Being an epileptic, the state of Texas says that I cannot drive until I am three months seizure-free, so commuting is a challenge. On my art side, I would love for an established boot company to help me place my work on an actual boot so I can wear it. This would be life-changing for me.

You know that we at Tanglewood Moms love an entrepreneurial spirit.
Meet Danette Wicker, owner of DUO: Danette’s Urban Oasis, a wellness spa and gift boutique in the Near Southside.

Danette inherited her entrepreneurial spirit from her father, who told her that she could either be “a worker bee or a queen bee, but you can’t be both.” Danette is both. She envisioned a place where spa treatments and therapies would be available to everyone, not just a rarified few. And since 2003, she’s been doing just that.

We caught up with Danette just before she started to move into her booth at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

Worthy Convos: First of all, tell us a little bit about yourself.

Danette Wicker: We have lived in Fort Worth for over 35 years. We moved here with our son, Antonio, for my husband, Alphas, to work at TCOM (Now UNT Health). We have seen Fort Worth grow, and we have grown Danette’s Urban Oasis along with it.

MW: What made you decide to open a wellness spa AND gift boutique instead of a wellness spa OR gift boutique?

DW: DUO’s evolution into a wellness studio and boutique started with a vision of being affordable and accessible to all. I am multi-licensed and offer services similar to those at a larger spa, but I offer them so that all can afford to take time for themselves.

My father taught me in business that you must have multiple streams of income. By offering detox and wellness services, I am meeting the needs of those clients. By providing retail goods, I offer gifts for entertaining (indoor and outdoor) and great curated gifts made by my husband and me.

MW: What is the most popular service that you offer?

DW: The most popular service is the full-body red light therapy with a detox ionic foot session and reflex foot massage. I am a multi-licensed wellness studio and boutique in private practice, and I love seeing the joy clients show when they realize the space and time set aside just for them.

MW: DUO has been in business since 2003. Congratulations! Can you tell us how you’ve succeeded in a competitive field and in a city where new businesses open and close every year?

DW: The foundation of DUO has not changed. We signed our first commercial lease at the Downtown YMCA in 2003. The vision was and is to offer affordable and accessible services to our community. The 60-minute massage started at $30 in 2003 and is now $45. I have worked with clients and families from pregnancy through hospice. We are always sowing and growing. I strive to learn and add new services for my clients. I offer $50 yearly memberships, DUO 50/50, and clients get the Detox Wellness Sessions for 50% off. It’s a way for everyone to access therapy they thought they could not afford.

MW: What are your most popular product lines?

DW: Our most popular gifts are the Drink Handlers from a fantastic, made-in-Texas small business. They are beverage sleeves with handles to keep your hands warm and your drinks cold.

Our stainless steel tumblers feature a dual-chamber design, allowing you to enjoy hot beverages on one side and cold beverages on the other.

Our NeckSips are a fun gift that lets you enjoy and stay hands-free. It is like an adult drink bag with a lanyard. It is excellent for pool parties and wine festivals.

MW: What are your most popular spa services?

DW: Waterless pedicures are gaining in popularity. I wanted to get my nail tech license so that I could offer safe, sanitary, non-toxic nail services in a private studio. It has been wonderful for my mobility-challenged and immune-compromised clients. Our wellness studio is wheelchair accessible, and all are welcome.

Have you ever watched a child using their imagination? Whether it’s creating an elaborate game with their friends which no adult could hope to understand or drawing a picture for you to display on the fridge, they are entirely present and joyful. Somewhere along the way, we lose that joy in creation.

In this installment of Worthy Convos, we talked with Donna Clark, the owner and creative mind behind Cowtown Twenty-Five, an art studio with the motto, “Make Art, Make Friends, Make Memories” that offers classes and workshops to help us reconnect to our creative, joyful selves.

Tanglewood Moms: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Donna Clark: My name is Donna Clark. I’m a native Fort Worthian, born and raised. Attended Arlington Heights High School, and also TCU – where I majored in communications (radio/tv/film).

My first career was an award winning video producer/writer/director, and I did that for broadcast and corporate projects for over 20 years.

My next entrepreneurial project was creating a non-profit theatre arts academy for kids in Coppell. It was there that my successful, after school “drama club” program was born. That ran for 16 years in schools in the DFW Metroplex (private, public, and charter schools).

Last year, my husband and I decided to embark on an adventure and move to Beaufort, South Carolina. There, I opened an art gallery (in honor of my late sister), featuring works of Fort Worth artists such as Jimmy Joe Jenkins, Amy Young, Mouty Shackelford, and Stacy McKnight. It was here that we started offering art/craft classes, and they were SUPER popular – we sold out every class over the summer months.

And while the gallery/studio was doing well in South Carolina, we really missed Fort Worth…and so this past October, we moved back…because “there’s no place like home.”

But knowing I wasn’t “done” with the art gallery/studio, I launched some “mobile” classes in November and December. We will continue to hold classes here locally, and also offer our DIY Kits online that can be shipped anywhere in the US.

Photo courtesy of Donna Clark and Cowtown Twenty-Five

TWM: What inspired you to open Cowtown Twenty-Five?

DC: My younger sister, Leanne, was a “hobby artist” and loved to create every day. She was an interior designer by trade, but loved dabbling with different mediums, especially alcohol inks, watercolors, and acrylics. She lost her battle with cancer in July of 2024, so this gallery and this art focus, is in her honor.

TWM: Is there a story behind the name?

DC: Since we were in Beaufort, South Carolina at the time of the creation of this gallery/studio, I wanted to pay homage to my own roots. The address of the studio was “25” – so Cowtown Twenty-Five was born. Everything in the studio represented my love for Cowtown, including the artists whose works I represented.

TWM: What kind of classes do you offer?

DC: Right now, we are offering crushed glass and resin classes. These are super popular because not only can you make a beautiful piece of art for your home, but ANYONE can do this.

TWM: I love that you offer DIY kits! What a great present! Can you tell us a little about the kits?

DC: Yes! The kits come with everything you need to complete a crushed glass and resin project. You get the form (the wooden frame), crushed glass, the resin and hardener, protective gloves, contact paper, tweezers. Just everything you need as if you were attending one of our classes. You will even receive step by step instructions on how to complete the project!

TWM: Do you have an artist to take a class or use one of your DIY kits? I’m hopeless at art!

DC: This is the beauty of these classes – anyone can take them. You don’t have to be a skilled artist, or have any experience AT ALL! This is part of our mission/vision…to make sure anyone and everyone can be creative (even if you don’t think you are.) All of our classes (now and in the future) will be beginner friendly. It’s really what our studio is about. Yes, it’s about the art and being creative, but perhaps more important, it’s about coming together in community. : Make Art/Make Friends/Make Memories.

TWM: What’s in your holiday box for the kiddos?

DC: This is a fun box full of creative inspiration for pre school age kids. It comes with a copy of my children’s book that I wrote (inspired by my after school drama club program), costume accessories, small puppets, and a plush toy so that kiddos can read the story with mom and dad (or grandma/grandpa), then act out the story through creative play with dress up and puppets!

TWM: Speaking of the kiddos, is there an age restriction on your classes?

DC: The classes are suitable for ages 12 and up, although with adult supervision, younger kids could participate (eight and up).

TWM: And finally, what’s your favorite medium for self-expression?

DC: Hmm. This is a good question! For me, I love to journal. Every morning, I bring out colored markers and a journal with blank pages and either write or draw. It’s a great way to start my day with some gratitude and reflection.

Photo courtesy of Donna Clark and Cowtown Twenty-Five

Unlike areas of law that focus on conflict or litigation, estate planning is proactive and deeply personal — it’s about guiding clients through some of the most important decisions they will ever make with clarity and compassion. I was drawn to this field because it combines technical expertise with human connection; every plan is unique, reflecting the values, goals, and legacy of the individual. Estate planning also provides peace of mind and being able to offer that sense of security to clients is incredibly rewarding. Ultimately, I chose this specialty because it aligns with my desire to serve others in a meaningful way, helping them navigate complex legal processes while building trust and confidence in their future.

Tanglewood Moms
Let’s start with the basics. Who needs a will?

Leslie Dillon Thomas
In Texas, almost everyone benefits from having a will. You need one if you own property, have children, or want control over who inherits your assets. You might not strictly need one if you have no property, no dependents, and don’t care how state law distributes your estate—but even then, a will avoids confusion and conflict.

TWM
What is the difference between a will and a trust?

LDT
A will and a revocable living trust are both estate planning tools, but they function in very different ways. A will is a legal document that only takes effect after death and directs how your assets should be distributed, while also allowing you to name guardians for minor children. Because a will must go through probate, the court oversees the process of validating it, settling debts, and transferring property, which can be time-consuming, costly, and public. In contrast, a revocable living trust is created during your lifetime and allows you to place assets under the management of a trustee, who distributes them according to your instructions both while you are alive and after you pass away. Trusts generally avoid probate, which means assets can be transferred more quickly, privately, and with fewer expenses. Another key distinction is that a trust can set conditions on how and when beneficiaries receive assets—for example, delaying distributions until a child reaches a certain age—while a will simply transfers property outright. In short, a will is simpler and less expensive to set up, but a revocable living trust offers greater control, privacy, and efficiency in managing and passing on your estate.

TWM
Estate planning can be overwhelming to the uninitiated. How do you help your clients figure out what they need?

LDT
The team at Thomas-Walters, PLLC, and I recognize that estate planning can feel overwhelming, especially for those who are new to the process and unsure of where to begin. Our approach is designed to simplify complex legal concepts and provide clients with clear, personalized guidance so that they can make confident decisions about their future. Rather than offering cookie-cutter solutions, we takes the time to understand each client’s unique circumstances, including family dynamics, financial goals, and long-term wishes. From there, we craft tailored estate plans that may include wills, trusts, medical directives, and powers of attorney, ensuring that every detail is aligned with the client’s priorities.

One of the ways Thomas-Walters, PLLC makes estate planning more approachable is by emphasizing education. I explain legal tools in plain language, helping clients understand the differences between wills and trusts, the role of probate, and how guardianship decisions are made. This educational focus empowers clients to choose the strategies that best fit their needs rather than feeling pressured into a one-size-fits-all plan. The firm also provides peace of mind by addressing potential challenges upfront, such as minimizing estate taxes, avoiding unnecessary court involvement, and preventing family disputes.

Another hallmark of our practice is transparency in pricing. Unlike many law firms that bill by the hour, Thomas-Walters operates on a flat-fee basis. This means clients know exactly what to expect financially, eliminating the stress of unpredictable legal costs. This structure allows clients to focus on the substance of their estate plan without worrying about mounting fees. The firm’s commitment to clarity extends beyond finances; we also ensure that documents are drafted in a way that is easy to follow, reducing confusion for both clients and their families.

I have decades of experience in estate planning and elder law and have been recognized as one of the top estate planning attorneys in Texas. I’ve authored resources such as Estate Planning in Texas, which further demonstrates my dedication to making these topics accessible to everyday families. My philosophy combines technical expertise with compassion, guiding clients through what can often be an emotionally charged process with patience and care.

Ultimately, the firm’s mission is to provide clients with peace of mind, knowing that their wishes will be honored and their loved ones protected.

TWM
What is probate and is there a way to avoid it?

LDT
Probate in Texas is the court-supervised process of validating a will, settling debts, and distributing assets after someone dies, and while it may sound straightforward, it can quickly become burdensome. Probate often requires multiple filings, hearings, and attorney involvement, making it both time-consuming and expensive. Depending on the complexity of the estate, probate can last anywhere from six months to several years, especially if disputes arise among heirs. Costs vary widely but can include court filing fees of $400–$500 or more, executor fees, appraisal costs, and attorney’s fees that sometimes reach tens of thousands of dollars, draining money that would otherwise go to beneficiaries. Beyond the financial strain, probate is a public process, meaning your estate details become part of the court record, which many families find intrusive. Fortunately, probate can often be avoided altogether in Texas through proactive estate planning. Strategies include creating a revocable living trust, designating beneficiaries on accounts like life insurance and retirement funds, holding property in joint tenancy with right of survivorship, and using transfer-on-death deeds for real estate. By taking these steps, Texans can ensure their assets pass directly to loved ones without court involvement, saving time, money, and stress while keeping family matters private.

TWM
Okay, we’ve got my estate in order. How often do I have to update everything?

LDT
Once you’ve created your estate plan, it’s not something you can just set aside forever — it should be reviewed and updated periodically to make sure it still reflects your life, your assets, and your wishes. A good rule of thumb in Texas (and generally) is to revisit your estate plan every three to five years or sooner if you experience a major life change. Significant events that usually trigger an update include marriage or divorce, the birth or adoption of a child, the death of a spouse or beneficiary, acquiring or selling major assets like a home or business, moving to a new state, or changes in tax or estate laws. Even smaller shifts, like changes in your financial accounts or beneficiary designations, can make an update worthwhile.

The reason for this is that estate plans are living documents—they’re only as good as how current they are. If your will or trust doesn’t reflect your present circumstances, your estate could end up in probate disputes or distributed in ways you didn’t intend. Regular updates also ensure that powers of attorney and healthcare directives still name the right people to act on your behalf. By keeping your plan fresh, you avoid surprises, reduce stress for your loved ones, and maintain control over how your legacy is handled.

TWM
And finally, what made you choose estate planning as your legal specialty?

LDT
I chose estate planning as my legal specialty because it allows me to make a direct and lasting impact on people’s lives by helping them protect their families, preserve their assets, and ensure their wishes are honored.

The post Worthy Convos: Leslie Dillon Thomas of Thomas-Walters, PLLC first appeared on Tanglewood Moms.

For more than 40 years, David has built some of the area’s most beautiful custom homes—projects defined by craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a genuine love for creating spaces where families can live and make memories. From restoring historic ranch properties to collaborating with top architects on new builds, his passion for quality shines through in every project. We caught up with David to hear how he got his start, what he’s learned along the way, and what keeps him excited about the work after all these years.

Tanglewood Moms: How did you first get started in the construction industry?

David Lewis: I started in the construction industry pretty much as a child, at the age of around 15. After many years of pushing wood into a molding mill for my dad, I decided I’d rather be out in the field, bringing construction projects to life.

TWM: What inspired you to start your own building company?

DL: I have worked around a lot of people who didn’t share my commitment to quality execution or attention to architectural detail, I started David Lewis Builder to deliver bespoke homes for clients who wanted more than just a place to live. We construct dwellings that inspire families to gather, connect, and make memories.

TWM: What have been the toughest lessons to learn as both a builder and a businessman?

DL: This process, of course, comes with many challenges, and I went through the trial and errors of learning how to be a businessman, which proved much harder than the building process itself. After 40 years of consistent progress, we’ve assembled a team of the right people and luckily, the Lord was good to me, and I was blessed with people who could help me along the journey in establishing a successful company. It’s a difficult business that we try to make look easy, but I enjoy the challenge.

TWM: How would you describe David Lewis Builder’s reputation and the types of projects you take on today?

DL: I think we’re in the top three-to-five builders in this area. We’re fortunate to have deep roots in this community with long-term clients who trust and recommend us. I feel honored to be able to pick and choose projects that excite us. With a commitment to meeting clients’ needs and delivering uncompromising quality in construction and design, David Lewis Builder’s design process includes collaborative work with industry experts. Recently, I was lucky to work with a couple from Dallas who hired the architectural firm, D Stanley Dixon out of Atlanta, Georgia. It’s been a fabulous project to work on and Stanley and his team are very talented. I’ve learned a lot from Stanley’s perspective in terms of scale and proportion.

TWM: Tell us about your prestigious project, Lambshead Ranch.

DL: That property is steeped in history with a rich family heritage. We really invested in the preservation of the history of the property, and kept it true to the original form. The ranch dates back to the 1850s, and some of the structures we renovated were from the 1890s, so we had to keep the history and legacy of the property in place, while at the same time modernizing it so that it can survive another 150 years. We worked on the main house, created motel pods and additional cottages, installed solar power systems, and rainwater harvesting systems to create a sustainable off-grid property. We had to ensure we used the right materials that would minimize maintenance caused by abrasive winds and high UV exposure.

TWM: You’ve mentioned the importance of your team—how would you describe the relationships within your company?

DL: Working at David Lewis Builder is like being part of a family. While we all know we have a job to do every day, the most important thing is that each of us supports the other and we’re genuine teammates. The team members strive to be good mentors to each other, helping with any difficulties, whether personal or professional.

TWM: What keeps you motivated and involved in the business after so many successful years?

DL: I’m 68, so I’m at the stage where I’ll continue to stay at the forefront, selling projects, meeting with architects, and supporting my team. My philosophy is to do it right no matter what it takes. We always try to grow and adapt to challenging circumstances and find opportunities to learn from adversity. Our purpose is people, and our process puts each client’s vision and satisfaction at the center of the project. When you trust David Lewis Builder to take your dream home from conception to construction, you receive our fullest commitment to a process marked by integrity, communication, and quality.

TWM: What are your plans for the future—both personally and for the company?

DL: In five years, I plan on taking a bit more of a back seat and allowing some of the team around here to run things. I’ll be 73, still here God willing, and I enjoy working, so I don’t think there’s a rule that says when you must stop. The team here is great, they enjoy what they do, and I try to help them pursue their passions and talents, whether that’s managing projects or designing, or building. It’s a collaborative effort from all of us here at David Lewis Builder, now and for the future.

It’s easy to get caught up, or even sometimes bogged down, in the everyday doings of life. It happens to the best of us. Today, it’s school, followed by a soccer game, then on to the dance recital, and oh yeah, what does everyone want for dinner tonight now that it’s nearly bedtime? The day-to-day demands of everyday life are real for all of us, and they often get in the way of thinking about and planning for the future.

However, setting aside time to think about and plan for the future you and your future children will tackle future life is imperative. What happens to the kids if something happens to you? What happens to your income if something happens to your job or company? Thinking about these things can be unsettling.

Helping create plans that address these often scary questions is what The Cleverly Law Form does. James Cleverly has developed a unique process to help families find peace of mind while working through tough questions.

Can you give a brief rundown of your legal education and background leading up to starting your firm?

First and foremost, I am a husband, father, brother and son. These titles mean the most to me and drive me to do what I do. For over twenty years, I’ve used my law degree to help make a difference in people’s lives, and I believe there is no greater reward than to provide people with the peace of mind of knowing that their family and loved ones will be taken care of should something happen to them. Most attorneys and firms commonly refer to this as “estate planning,” but we think a better term would be “life planning.”

I attended Stephen F. Austin State University for my bachelor’s and attended law school in New England. Upon graduating from law school, I worked for a mid-sized law firm with offices across Texas and later a litigation boutique. I was the Ellis County Bar President for four years, an adjunct professor of business law, a member of Cowtown Angels, and a board member of the SFA Alumni Association; I volunteer with the Aledo Education Foundation and serve on the finance committee at my local church.

I am also one of only a few attorneys in Texas to start, scale, and sell two companies: one to a private equity-backed buyer and a third company through a venture capital-backed incubator. While the majority of our practice focuses on wills, trusts, guardianships, etc., I draw upon my personal experience and devote a portion of our practice to assisting a select few companies with exit planning, succession planning, and/or brokering the sale of their company.

What made you decide to start a firm specializing in estate planning? Why that specialty?

I had two large life-changing moments within just a few short months of each other; my daughter was born, making me a dad for the first time, and my father passed away unexpectedly.

When my father died, he left behind a twenty-five-year-old will and a notebook with passwords for accessing accounts should something happen to him. But that was all: a bare-bones will his employer had paid to have drawn up decades ago, some passwords, and a single saved voicemail that I cherish.

I quickly came to two realizations: One, that having a boilerplate will that most firms prepare is woefully inadequate and would fail to accomplish what clients truly wanted – to protect their loved ones in the event something should happen to them; and secondly, that estate planning that leaves your family monetary assets is the absolute bare minimum, and even that was not being done correctly by most attorneys.

At my law firm, we emphasize ensuring our clients not only convey their financial assets but also pass along their values, insights, guidance, and family history – which is just as, if not more, valuable to their loved ones.

In opening my firm, I wanted to change the dynamic of estate planning and business law and bring back a true trusted advisor relationship with my clients. To put it quite simply, we do things differently.

We start with the end in mind – determine your goals and concerns and then work backward into an estate plan specifically tailored for your family. We don’t cut corners and are probably more detail-oriented than most people anticipate.

At the end of the day, we see ourselves as being paid not for the papers we create but for the results we produce for our clients and their families. Lastly, nothing we do is based on an hourly rate basis. Everything is billed as a flat-rate fee, agreed upon in advance, so there are no surprises. You will know exactly what it will cost to work with us.

What does your typical client profile look like? Have you seen changes in that since you started your practice?

My typical client is usually a couple or an individual in their mid-thirties to mid-fifties, with children still at home or young adults. As a father myself, we place an emphasis on ensuring minor children are protected should something happen to their parents.

Most people’s thoughts usually think of what happens to their kids when they die, but that isn’t always the case. For example, my wife and I were out on a rare date night not long ago. As we were heading home, waiting at a red light, the car directly in front of us was t-boned by a drunk driver. We stopped and rendered aid until EMS arrived, and I believe everyone was going to be “okay”, but they were all transported to local hospitals.

I bring this story up because if you only had a simple will and this happened to you, the police would show up at your home. They would find your kids with a teenage babysitter – someone who cannot take legal custody of them, and CPS would be called. You’re not coming home, and your kids are headed to CPS – that is the worst of both worlds for a parent.

At our firm, we provide all of our clients who have minor children with a “Children’s Protection Plan.” This includes both long-term and short-term guardians. Short-term guardians are friends, family, or neighbors who can be at your home quickly in an emergency. We also provide a sheet to leave with your babysitter listing those they can call and who have legal authorization to take custody of your children should there ever be that dreaded knock on the door. Lastly, we also provide our clients with an ID Card to keep in their wallet that says you have minor children waiting for you at home, and please call these people listed in this order.

What typically brings new clients to your firm? Are there specific life events that trigger clients to seek out the type of expertise you deliver?

We are fortunate that many of our clients come from referrals from other professionals or, most commonly, from former clients. Occasionally, someone has experienced a life-changing event – be it an accident or the death of a loved one that brings them to us; other times, it is much happier events – such as a marriage or the birth of a child.

I like to tell people we are an estate planning firm – or as we call it “life planning” law firm. So, what does that mean, or what is it we do exactly?

We help families get all those documents they know they should have in place but always seem to put off doing: wills, trusts, healthcare directives, guardians for the kids, etc. However, your “assets” are more than just numbers on a balance sheet or bank statement; they represent the fruits of your hard work and the key to a secure future for your loved ones.

Why is it important for people to be thinking about these things in their 30s and 40s?

As I referenced above, estate planning shouldn’t be something you only consider when you’re older; it is just as, if not more, important to have in place when you have young children still at home.

If you have one or two simple pieces of advice for our readers that everyone should be doing or thinking about, what would they be?

The best way to give advice might be by example. Take a moment and ask yourself – if something were to happen to you and your spouse, who would be the person who would arrive at your home to help handle things? Maybe it would be a sibling, close friend, or parent? Now ask yourself – does that person know where you bank? Do they know if you have life insurance? A 401K? Who your mortgage company is? How to access your computer? Where your birth certificate, passport and other important papers are stored? If the answer to these questions and more is “no,” then I’d encourage you to start to work on selectively sharing that information.

Of course, we would be happy to help get your readers organized and provide those important people in their lives with the legal documentation they would need to handle whatever may arise.

The post Life Planning with Jeremy Cleverly: A Worthy Convo first appeared on Tanglewood Moms.
