A Fiesta of Culture and Community

Visit Fort Worth is proud to partner with several Hispanic organizations in Fort Worth to honor and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The official month, September 15 – October 15, recognizes Hispanic and Latino American contributions to our nation’s history, culture and society.

This year’s festivities highlight the cultural diversity and unity of the Hispanic community in Fort Worth. On September 17, the Fiestas Patrias Parade in the Historic Stockyards will kick off celebrations. The parade will precede an all-day celebration including live music, food and an equestrian extravaganza event at Cowtown Coliseum. Featured guests will include Fort Worth city officials and council members, the Consul General of Mexico in Dallas, Charros, Escaramuzas and several Hispanic organizations throughout Fort Worth.

On the afternoon of September 17, the Fort Worth ‘Grito’ Celebration at La Gran Plaza de Fort Worth, the Latin American shopping hub, will honor Mexican Independence Day with live music, ballet folklorico dance performances, and ceremonies featuring the Consul General of Mexico in Dallas and Fort Worth city officials.

On October 8, the 8th Annual Michelada Festival is a free Fort Worth event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in General Worth Square. Festival goers can enjoy local, authentic Mexican and Latin American food, culture, live music and free samples of michelada mix before casting their vote for the best Michelada.

“We are excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in Fort Worth with these incredible events,” said Bob Jameson, president and CEO of Visit Fort Worth. “It is a time for us to come together as a community and appreciate the lasting contributions of Hispanic culture to the fabric of our city.”

Throughout the month, Visit Fort Worth will partner with the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the City of Fort Worth and Councilman Carlos Flores, who represents District 2 in the Historic Northside, Fort Worth Botanic Garden, Artes de la Rosa, Sundance Square, the Historic Stockyards and La Gran Plaza de Fort Worth.

“Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the richness and diversity of Hispanic culture,” said Carlos Flores, Fort Worth Council Member for District 2. “Citywide celebrations of festivals, traditional foods, parades and performances are planned from September 15 to October 15. Join Visita Fort Worth in celebrating our proud heritage traced back to Spain, Mexico, Caribbean, Central and South America.”

“Latinos across the city, county, state and country will proudly celebrate in unison this Hispanic Heritage Month,” said Jeanette Martinez, Fort Worth City Councilwoman for District 11. “As we reflect on our history and heritage, we bring awareness to a rich culture full of amazing people, food and economic power.”

Events will begin prior to the official start of Hispanic Heritage Month with food festivals and art presentations. Celebrations will continue through the Day of the Dead through November 5.

Festivities will take place at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, La Gran Plaza de Fort Worth, Rose Marine Theater, Marine Park, Sundance Square Plaza and various restaurants throughout the city. New events will feature Latin American and Caribbean music and cuisine, along with Tejano culture and music.

Visit Fort Worth will also celebrate Hispanics in the hospitality industry throughout the month. The Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host its 50th Anniversary Gala on September 16th at the Fort Worth Convention Center. This event will feature awards from Visita Fort Worth, a branch of Visit Fort Worth, to highlight individuals, businesses and organizations that promote Hispanic partners in the hospitality industry.
