Gallery of Dreams Announces 2024’s Artist in Residence
Gallery of Dreams, a local art and community non-profit, is excited to announce that Allie Dickerson has been selected as the artist for the 2024 Artist in Residency (A.I.R.) program. This prestigious program is made possible by a generous grant from The Arts Fund of the North Texas Community Foundation and Fort Works Art, highlighting a shared commitment to nurturing creativity, community engagement, and the advancement of the arts in Fort Worth.
Allie Dickerson, a creative director and artist based in Fort Worth, brings a unique and deeply introspective approach to her work. Her latest series, “Collateral Beauty,” was conceptualized during long walks in nature as she navigated personal loss. This series, which blurs the lines between sculpture and painting, explores themes such as repetition and discontinuation, brokenness and renewal, beauty and loss of beauty, and fragility and strength. Her intricate clay paintings evolve with their environment and viewer’s perception, embodying the transformation and resilience found in nature.
Allie’s impressive background includes a BFA in graphic design from the University of Texas at Arlington and an MFA from Texas Christian University. Her work has been showcased in numerous notable exhibitions, including the Chelsea International Fine Art Competition, the Agora Gallery in New York, and the Hunting Art Prize in Houston, Texas. She has also been featured in the critically acclaimed periodical, New American Paintings.
The A.I.R. program, hosted by Fort Works Art Gallery, offers Allie a dedicated studio space from July 1 to September 30, 2024. This period will allow her to fully immerse herself in her artistic practice, supported by a $7,500 cash award and a monthly stipend for material expenses. The residency will culminate in a solo exhibition, providing Allie a platform to showcase her work, receive feedback, and interact with the community.
Jurors Benito Huerta and Letitia Huckaby, esteemed figures in the North Texas art scene, served as the selection committee for the 2024 residency. Huerta, a significant influencer in Latina/o Art in Texas, and Huckaby, an acclaimed photographer exploring Black American heritage, bring a wealth of experience and insight to the program.
Throughout the residency, Allie will engage with the community through public lectures and studio interactions, fostering dialogue and inspiration. She will also dedicate a minimum of 15 hours per week to her studio practice during gallery business hours, ensuring focused progress on her work.
