Girl Scouts Do a Good Turn with Goodwill NCT
Goodwill North Central Texas is proud to partner with the Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains to present Good Turn Day. Between September 25 and October 23, Girl Scouts are challenged to donate at least two 30-gallon trash bags full of donations to a Goodwill North Central Texas location. The girls then must complete an online virtual tour and video quiz about the nonprofit’s mission to earn their Good Turn Day patch.
On Monday, October 10th, Goodwill North Central Texas offered a tour and activity day to more than 50 Girl Scouts that visited Goodwill Altamesa to learn more about Goodwill operations in person. Goodwill also facilitated a craft activity, a create your own costume challenge and provided goodie bags for attendees. Girl Scouts that attended the tour and turned their donations in or presented their donation receipt, received their Good Turn Day patch on-site.
“Good Turn Day is an event that has historic roots with Goodwill North Central Texas dating back to the 1960’s. We partnered with Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and Camp Fire Girls and these youth organizations would collect donations for Goodwill in exchange for a Good Turn Patch,” said Shay Dial Johnson, Vice President of Community Engagement for Goodwill North Central Texas. “In 2015, we found old patches and photos of this program in our photo archives, and we formally brought the program back in 2017 to increase awareness of Goodwill and our charitable mission among our youth.”
