The Truth Behind the Cut-Outs at Cook Children’s
Have you seen the life size cut-outs of children that are decorating the lawn at Cook Children’s? Have you wondered what they are? Well, wonder no more.
On May 14, 125 life size cut-outs of children were unveiled on the lawn at Cook Children’s. Each one represents 1,000 local Cook Children’s Health Plan members who will be forced to switch to a for-profit insurance company if Texas fails to adopt legislation allowing non-profit, community health plans to remain in operation. Cook Children’s hopes this visual representation will starkly remind legislators of what is at stake.
Numbers Behind the Cut-Outs:
- 125,000 North Texas children and families rely on Cook Children’s Health Plan, including up to 10,000 medically-fragile children, more than 1,700 children dependent on wheelchairs and 170 children dependent on ventilators.
- Statewide, 1.8 million kids and expectant mothers will be shifted to out-of-state, for-profit insurers unless lawmakers pass legislation.
- Nearly 2,000 jobs across the state will be lost along with community-based health plans.
The cut-outs will be on display though June 2nd. Learn more at SaveCookChildrensHealthPlan.
