The Welman Project and Fort Worth Museum of Science and History Unveil Recycled Christmas Tree Display
The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is proud to announce the 2025 Giving Tree, the Museum’s annual end-of-year giving tradition. Typically represented by a Christmas tree displayed in the Museum’s atrium, the Giving Tree invites guests to help support the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s many programs and learning experiences by gifting items from a wish list curated by different teams within the Museum.

This year’s wish list features items like kids cardboard cutting tools, magnetic building blocks, and STEM Board Games. The campaign also offers the option to make a donation towards general supplies for community events and STEAM Festivals.

This season’s Giving Tree is even more meaningful, thanks to a creative partnership with The Welman Project, who designed and built the Museum’s Giving Tree entirely from recycled and repurposed materials. The Welman Project is another Fort Worth-based nonprofit who works to reduce waste by redirecting usable materials to educators and community partners such as the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. Reusing materials is an everyday practice that helps the Museum’s educators bring learning to life. This year’s tree reflects the creativity and resourcefulness they use daily.
The display also offers a sneak peek at the Museum’s upcoming exhibition, Waste to Wonder, an exhibit that explores how creativity and innovation can transform discarded materials into something new. Made in collaboration with the Tarrant County Education Foundation, the exhibit examines how long common items take to decompose, what materials people used before plastics, and how artists and companies are rethinking waste today.

Vanessa Barker, Co-Founder and Creative Director of The Welman Project stated, “The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History has played an undeniable part in fostering my curiosity and sense of wonder as a child. Now as a grown-up it is an absolute honor to partner with the museum to bring wonder to the next generation of kids through The Welman Project’s Waste to Wonder Holiday Tree.”
The Giving Tree will be on display until December 30, 2025. Museum guests are welcome to explore the display and play “I Spy” to find different items that make up the tree and festive props that surround it. While visiting the display, guests can also flip through “Santa’s Book” to view the Museum’s wish list and make a donation. The Giving Tree campaign can also be found online at www.fwmuseum.org.
