You’re Invited! Conservation Easements 101: Landowner Happy Hour
Native Prairies Association of Texas (NPAT) is now offering funding to help North Texas landowners permanently protect their land. Through the North Texas Prairie Initiative, NPAT can provide Transaction Cost Assistance to help North Texas landowners offset some of the costs associated with establishing conservation easements on their properties. Conservation easements are powerful tools for protecting Texas land, but the upfront costs can often be prohibitive. NPAT created this funding to help more North Texas landowners protect their grasslands, prairies, and working lands.
For those unfamiliar with conservation easements, these are voluntary legal agreements that enable landowners to retain ownership and use of their land while ensuring it remains protected from future development and subdivision. While conservation easements can provide significant conservation and financial benefits, the upfront transaction costs associated with completing an easement can sometimes discourage interested landowners from moving forward. To address this challenge, NPAT has worked to raise funding specifically dedicated to assisting landowners with some of these expenses such as surveys, baseline documentation reports, mineral assessments, and other due diligence costs necessary to complete a conservation easement.
“We frequently meet people who want to conserve their land with a conservation easement but are unable to because of the costs. This funding is intended to make easements more approachable for these families and make it possible for more people to protect their land.” said Rachel Seets, North Texas Acquisitions Manager for Native Prairies Association of Texas.
Applications for Transaction Cost Assistance are currently open through the North Texas Prairie Initiative with a submission deadline of August 15, 2026. Interested landowners can learn more and access the application materials at https://texasprairie.org/ntpi-tca/.
NPAT will also be hosting a Conservation Easements 101 Landowner Happy Hour in downtown Fort Worth on July 22nd from 5:30 – 7:30 pm for people interested in learning more about this funding and conservation easements. The event will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about the conservation easement process from local experts, hear from landowners who have easements on their properties, and connect with fellow landowners.
