Live! From Scotland – It’s Saturday Morning with Central Market!
In times where travel and in-person classes are challenging, Central Market is making it easy by bringing world-renowned chefs directly into your home. Multi award-winning Scottish Chef Gary Maclean will offer a free online cooking class to all Central Market customers this Labor Day weekend. With more people cooking at home these days, this is the perfect opportunity to broaden your seafood recipe repertoire with new dishes from across the pond.
Log in on your home device and cook alongside one of the world’s best chefs. The class will go live at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5 and wrap just in time for lunch to be served. Central Market will have all products on hand for purchase at stores starting Friday, Sept. 4. During the class, participants will also have the chance to submit questions to Chef Maclean to be answered in real time. Following the class, Central Market will post a link to the class on its web site so the video can be accessed for weeks to come.

- Starters (a demonstration):
- Mey Selections Scottish smoked salmon salad with French beans, snap peas, pea puree and almonds on a bed of mixed lettuce leaves
- Grilled (Broiled) Scottish Langoustine with Tain Barrel cheddar, fennel, pea, herb salad and aioli
- Entrée (Cook along dish):
- Filet of Native Hebridean Scottish Salmon with a warm potato salad, capers, poached egg and asparagus
- Dessert (a demonstration):
- Texas Raspberry Cranachan with whisky (optional), Stoats oats, Equi’s ice-cream, Heather Hills honey & chocolate shavings.

Born in Glasgow, 48-year-old multi-award-winning chef Gary Maclean spent his early career working in hotels. At the age of 21 he became the Head Chef of a small fine dining restaurant. From there he went on to run the kitchens at Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art and the Burrell Collection.
Gary has also held executive chef positions in some of Scotland’s largest independent operators and during that time developed and opened over 80 restaurants and hotels. His current role as Executive Chef at City of Glasgow College is what really drives his passion for mentoring other young chefs and creative cooking.
His work in education has been recognized, for his dedication to education by winning Craft Guild of Chefs Chef lecturer of the Year 2015 and CiS Excellence awards Hospitality Educator of the Year 2017, as well as winning four international and fourteen national college culinary competitions as coach of the College culinary team. He has recently been named as a Fellow of the Master Chefs of Great Britain.
In December 2016 he was crowned BBC MasterChef: The Professionals Champion 2016, after taking on 47 other professional chefs in the pursuit of gastronomic glory. He battled through seven weeks of fierce competition on our TV screens and extra-ordinary cooking in the culinary challenges. There was only one king of the kitchen and he touched the hearts and passions of the UK TV audience.
Since winning Gary has embarked on a whole host of activities, from public appearances all over the UK to opening pop up restaurants and events in Miami, New York, Hollywood, Singapore, India, New England, Indonesia, Malaysia, Colombia, Cuba, Canada the Highlands and Islands. Gary has also spent a lot of time working in the media being a regular on TV, radio and printed press and embarked on presenting with a job on BBC Landward and has his own BBC show, Corner Shop Cook Off. Gary has also published his first book Kitchen Essentials The Joy of Home Cooking.
Gary is an ambassador for Scottish food and food education and fully believes that every child should be entitled to quality food education.
