No Wizardry Required
Sometimes (most times) you’re the hamster, and life is the wheel. You’re so busy trying to keep up with the demands of everyday that carving out free time to focus on your fitness and health would require the art and practice of wizardry. But what if someone told you that in exchange for two hours of your precious time per week, you were guaranteed improved physical and nutritional results? Dee Henry, founder and owner of Champion Strength & Conditioning, a full-service gym and personal training facility, can make that promise. All you have to do is show up. No wizardry required.
What is a typical weekly schedule for your clients?
Our clients usually workout twice per week with anywhere from 2 to 4 days in between their sessions.
There’s this idea floating around that the more weights you lift, the bulkier you can become which scares off a lot of women. Is there any validity to this?
That’s totally false. I always say I’ve never seen a weight that had calories and even if they did you don’t eat weights. When someone gets “bulky” it is 100% due to their diet. In our program the scale goes down and the weights go up!
For someone who dedicates their life to fitness, how do you prevent stagnation in your workouts?
The best way to prevent stagnation is by seeing and feeling steady improvement in your workouts, your body and getting great results. You won’t get bored with progress!
Strength training can be intimidating, especially in the beginning. How do you work with clients to make them feel comfortable and confident?
We make it a point to be totally hands on from the moment the client walks in the door. We are committed to the client being welcomed and a priority while they are in our gym. We also demonstrate everything so you can learn the exercises faster.
What youth programs do you offer?
We have private training available for youths. This summer we will be starting a youth camp so be on the lookout!
Exercise is nothing without nutrition. How do you help keep your clients on track with how they’re fueling their bodies?
Well said! We have a full nutritional system and process that starts with our nutritional tracker that we call “The Champ App”. Our members use our app to track specific nutrients and items that affect their health, weight and performance along with other items as well. We then review that information at each training session.
Champion touts guaranteed results. What expectations do you set before taking on a new personal training client?
Yes, we do! The only expectations that we set really are for ourselves. We firmly believe that our system will help anyone who is willing. The only thing we can’t do is get you out of bed! Just show up twice a week and we will take care of the rest!
Life can really interfere with routines. If someone is pressed for time, what workout/exercises do you recommend for maximum results?
So true. If you’re pressed for time, you should workout at a different time. To get the right workout, you need to devote a minimum of 45 minutes for it to be optimal. This is why we give our clients flexibility to reschedule when they need to. This way they can get in a great workout versus a rushed one. And with a two session per week program, it makes it doable.
What is your favorite pre and post workout snack?
My favorite pre workout snack is nothing if I’m doing a fat burn workout. Raw nuts, dried cherries and dark chocolate if I’m doing a high intensity workout (HIT). For a post workout I go with a whey protein isolate drink. I’ll add a small orange if it’s after a HIT workout.
