Four Day Weekend Leaving Sundance Square After 27 Years
Four Day Weekend, the acclaimed comedy institution that has been a cornerstone of entertainment in Fort Worth for the past 27 years, is leaving Sundance Square in July. This follows the decision by Sundance Square Management not to renew their lease.
Since its inception in 1997, Four Day Weekend has delighted more than 875,000 audience members with 7,500 shows. The theater has been a cultural beacon in the area, drawing guests who have enjoyed dinner, drinks, and shopping before or after their performances.
David Wilk, a founding member of Four Day Weekend, expressed the team’s disappointment in Sundance Square’s decision, but emphasized Four Day Weekend’s commitment to the Fort Worth community.
“We are deeply saddened that we won’t be able to continue our journey in Sundance Square, a place that has been our home for nearly three decades. However, we are excited about finding a new location in Tarrant County where we can continue to bring laughter and joy to our loyal audiences.”
The impact of Four Day Weekend extends beyond their shows. They have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Key to the City from former Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief for being “Fort Worth’s Greatest Ambassador,” and the Small Business of the Year award from the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. Their influence has reached the highest levels of government, having performed for two U.S. Presidents and delivered a keynote address to the United States Congress.
Four Day Weekend’s legacy began with a six-week run at Casa on the Square in 1997 which has led to a 27-year relationship with Sundance Square. Their contributions to the cultural fabric of Fort Worth have been substantial, consistently attracting visitors to the area and enhancing the local economy.
“Improv teaches you adaptability,” said Wilk. “It teaches you to fail fast and move on. We now have to figure out what we are going to do from this point forward. This isn’t what we had wanted, but we are looking at this situation as an opportunity.”
As they prepare for this transition, Four Day Weekend remains committed to their mission of spreading laughter and creating memorable experiences for their audience.
Four Day Weekend has a second location in Dallas, situated on lowest Greenville Avenue, which will continue to operate as usual. The team is actively searching for a new venue in Tarrant County to ensure local fans can enjoy their unique brand of comedy.
