The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity

Circle Theatre
The show opens by introducing us to an unconventional wrestling duo. Macedonio Guerra (“Mace”), a Puerto Rican wrestling fanatic (and “jobber” in the ring), finds himself teamed up with Vigneshwar Paduar (“VP”), a Brooklynite of Indian descent. Playwright Diaz pushes boundaries beyond the wrestling ring — addressing unspoken issues such as racism and politics and their presence within mass media. In this high-voltage play, it’s not just about winning matches but fighting for silenced truths. Buckle up—this striking theatrical experience leaves everything on the mat.

Afallon Presents Trout Fishing in America
October 10
Southside Preservation Hall
Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet formed Trout Fishing in America in 1979 as a means of survival. They traveled to California as a part of the Texas-based five-piece band St. Elmo’s Fire with hopes of being discovered and signed by a major record label. When no such opportunity arose, and the promising tour dissolved, Keith and Ezra peeled off from their bandmates to fend for themselves. Now it’s not unusual for three or four generations of a family to show up at a Trout performance and this is a point of pride for both Keith and Ezra. It may still be impossible to tell you what kind of music Trout plays, but after attending a show, you’ll know exactly what you’ve witnessed: two guys who still love what they do and are excited to share it with you.
The Amazing, Fabulous, and Spectacular Untruths of Juan Garcia
October 11 – November 3
Amphibian Stage
He’s got looks that kill, charm for days, and absolutely…no. grip. on. reality. Juan Garcia has returned to his hometown of Oaxaca, armed with grand tales and big dreams of becoming the city’s biggest celebrity. Watch as he weaves a tapestry of tall tales and misadventures, aiming to impress (and possibly confuse) everyone, particularly the lady of his misguided affections. As bills pile up and tired servants reach their limit, the stage is set for a comedy of errors that even Juan can’t lie his way out of. Fiction collides with truth in a spectacular night of theatre that promises to leave you breathless.

What the Constitution Means to Me

Now an adult, she revisits her teenage self to trace the generational impact America’s founding document has had on her life.
