Held on the first weekend in May on 33 glorious acres in Fort Worth’s Trinity Park, Mayfest is one event you won’t want to miss!

Elgar’s Enigma Variations: Strauss, Saint-Säens, and Elgar

Music Director Laureate Miguel Harth-Bedoya returns to lead the FWSO in a memorable evening. In a brilliant bit of musical mischief, Edward Elgar said that the melody to “Enigma” fits perfectly with another melody, but more than 100 years later, the finest musical minds have yet to settle on a definitive answer to the riddle. Join us to experience Miguel’s returns to the podium to direct Elgar’s Enigma Variations and Strauss’ rapturous Tod und Verklärung (“Death and Transfiguration”). Cellist Sterling Elliott, winner of the 2019 National Sphinx Competition, also makes his debut with the orchestra in Saint-Säens’ fiery Cello Concerto No. 1.

This concert will feature scenes from beloved standard and thrilling contemporary operas: La Bohéme by Giacomo Puccini, L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti, Aida by Giuseppe Verdi, The Crucible by Robert Ward, and Fellow Travelers by Gregory Spears. Not only do these selected scenes chronicle times of persecution in history—one during the Salem Witch Trials, another during the Lavender Scare, for instance – they also examine fractured interpersonal relationships as these characters grapple with grief, abuse, and heartbreak. The title Love Quarrels is a tribute to universal human struggles.

Fort Worth Botanic Garden
ZimSculpt features more than 100 exquisite sculptures by several dozen contemporary Zimbabwean artists. Known as Shona sculpture, these contemporary pieces are carved from various types of serpentine and semi-precious stone, often weighing tons, and can be as large as seven feet tall. All pieces are for sale, and a tented Marketplace offers a variety of smaller sculptures, jewelry and more.

The Charles Schwab Challenge is a professional golf tournament on the PGA TOUR, played annually in Fort Worth, Texas at historic Colonial Country Club. The inaugural event was held in 1946 and was won by hometown favorite Ben Hogan.

The days are getting warmer and the evenings longer. Summer will be here before we know it, as will the annual Concerts in the Garden series. Catch live music under the stars at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden every weekend from May 26 to June 11. Note: Due to last year’s scorching temperatures, the summer series has been moved up to May and June — rather than June and July — for the protection of both musicians and concertgoers. The fireworks show has also been replaced with a nightly drone show due to drought precautions and city ordinances.
