The ensemble includes Vadym Kholodenko, piano; CMSFW Artistic Director Gary Levinson, violin; Jennifer Betz, violin; D.J. Cheek, viola; and Allan Steele, cello. Betz, Cheek and Steele are members of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.

The multimedia pre-concert presentation begins at 1:15 p.m. Levinson discusses context and insight to the program’s composers and music, including the world premiere of Edward Green’s Trio for Strings: “A Drama in Two Acts.”

Vadym Kholodenko is the gold medalist of the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. He has a long history with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. He was its first artistic partner in 2014, with a three-year commitment of live recordings of Sergei Prokofiev’s complete piano concertos, various concert performances and other FWSO programs.

Kholodenko debuted with London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017 and has led major orchestras around the world in Vienna, Budapest, Milan, Taiwan, Sydney and Tokyo, as well as leading orchestras in the United States.

Born in Ukraine, his recordings have earned editor’s choice awards from BBC Music Magazine and Gramophone and a prestigious Diapason d’Or de l’annee (translated as “Golden Tuning Fork of the year” from Diapason, a French music magazine).

The quartet, based in Berlin, arrived in the U.S. this month after a rousing London performance. The Guardian review gave high praise: “vivid, intoxicating play from gleaming future stars.”

If February is the month of love, then the Leonkoro’s repertoire fits the romantic month’s motif. The pieces in the program are connected by the theme of love.

The repertoire includes:

• Henriëtte Bosmans — String Quartet (1927)
• Erwin Schulhoff — Five Pieces for String Quartet
• Anton Webern — “Langsamer Satz”
• Felix Mendelssohn — String Quartet in A Minor, Op. 13

These works of Schulhoff and Webern are also on their recently released second album, “Out of Vienna.”

“If you dig into these pieces, they’re all really, really romantic and full of heart and soul,” Lukas Schwarz, cello and co-founder of Leonkoro, said in a YouTube video about the album.

The Leonkoro Quartet’s numerous top prizes since 2022 — the Jürgen Ponto Foundation Music Prize, first prize and nine special prizes at the International Competition at London’s Wigmore Hall and others — have quickly elevated their status in chamber music.

The CMSFW concert is 2 to 4 p.m., part of the season, “Subtle Connections Across The World.”

Mr. Weiss has performed with major orchestras in prestigious venues and at music festivals around the world, including New York, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and more.

He debuted professionally with the Cleveland Orchestra in 1999. One month later, with less than 24 hours notice, he was invited to replace André Watts in a performance with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

A prolific recording artist, Mr. Weiss released last February the third and final album, Arc III, of his recital trilogy, featuring the music of Brahms, Shubert, Debussy and others.
