The last six months have been extremely difficult for most of us. A global pandemic. Civil unrest. Economic worries. Online schooling. 2020 has been full of stress and uncertainty.

Brad Nowlin understands what stress and uncertainty can do to a person, to a marriage, and to a family, and he wants to help.

A native of Tanglewood and an alumnus of TCU, Nowlin has been helping people learn to enjoy life again for over two decades. While many doctors and counselors focus on what’s wrong (and medicate it), Nowlin uses positive psychology not just to help his patients get better, but to help them live their best lives.

“So many medical professionals only focus on what’s wrong,” Nowlin says. “I want to focus on what’s good and true and right to help find purpose and meaning in life and relationships.”

Nowlin wasn’t always so focused on the positive. On Good Friday of 1999, he left his job, stopped drinking, and agreed to a divorce. His life’s journey has influenced his work; he understands grief and loss, divorce and substance abuse. Now happily married to Grace, a local artist, Nowlin works hard to help his clients re-invent their lives.

Nowlin’s practice is especially focused on life transitions. His practice is well-known for couples’ counseling, but it also encompasses individual counseling, grief counseling, and business counseling (Nowlin holds an MBA from TCU). He is passionate about walking with his clients as they work together to come up with creative solutions to life’s problems. “People can get stuck in their lives,” Nowlin says. “I’ll listen to them and ask questions to help them get unstuck, so they can work toward a more meaningful life.”

Nowlin is especially grateful to Tanglewood Moms, as we are to him. He is one of our original sponsors, and he’s an enthusiastic fan of the members of the group. “Tanglewood Moms are smart. They’re hard working and self-aware. When I know that a patient is a member of Tanglewood Moms, I know our work is going to be enlightening.”

Because Nowlin loves Tanglewood Moms, he wants to offer members $100 off a three-session marital tune-up using the Prepare/Enrich program. Simply mention Tanglewood Moms when you contact him.

At the end of our conversation, Nowlin told me a story about Liverpool F.C. “The Liverpool fans always sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ [a song from Carousel] at their games. They stand with their arms around each other and sing at the top of their lungs.” The team even adopted “You’ll Never Walk Alone” as their motto.

This could well be Brad Nowlin’s motto. He will sing with you, he will dance with you, above all, he wants you to know that you will never walk alone.
