<p>Black Gold, Brutus, McCree, and Blacksmith bring unique traits, striking appearances, and remarkable stories to continue the Herd&#8217;s tradition of celebrating Fort Worth&#8217;s rich history.</p>

<p><strong>Black Gold</strong></p>
<p>Born in 2018 and hailing from Greenleaf, Kansas, Black Gold stands out with his rare black color pattern. With an impressive horn span of 100.5 inches, his massive, twisty horns embody the grandeur of Texas Longhorns. Donated by Lazy J Longhorns and Joe Sedlacek, Black Gold earned his name as a nod to striking oil in Texas, making him as special as his namesake.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-36657" src="https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-5-1024x730.png" alt="" width="800" height="570" srcset="https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-5-1024x730.png 1024w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-5-300x214.png 300w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-5-281x200.png 281w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-5-768x548.png 768w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-5-600x428.png 600w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-5-550x392.png 550w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-5-561x400.png 561w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-5.png 1289w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p><strong>Brutus</strong></p>
<p>Brutus is a commanding presence in the Herd, with his striking red-and-white spotted coat and stout build. He was born in 2019 in Sunset, TX where he won multiple championship titles. Known for his size, Brutus is the largest steer in the Herd and was donated by Karlye Williams.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-36658" src="https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-4-1024x731.png" alt="" width="800" height="571" srcset="https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-4-1024x731.png 1024w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-4-300x214.png 300w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-4-280x200.png 280w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-4-768x548.png 768w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-4-600x428.png 600w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-4-550x393.png 550w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-4-560x400.png 560w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-4.png 1289w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p><strong>McCree</strong></p>
<p>McCree, a young steer also donated by Karlye Williams, joins the Herd at just 2 years old. He has an elegant red coat and subtle white speckles and brings a calming presence to the Herd. McCree has a distinctive set of horns that are straight only with a span of 57.5 inches. His addition highlights the diversity of the Herd’s extraordinary steers.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-36659" src="https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-3-1024x731.png" alt="" width="800" height="571" srcset="https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-3-1024x731.png 1024w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-3-300x214.png 300w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-3-280x200.png 280w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-3-768x548.png 768w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-3-600x428.png 600w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-3-550x393.png 550w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-3-560x400.png 560w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/unnamed-3.png 1287w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p><strong>Blacksmith</strong></p>
<p>Blacksmith is a local steer hailing from Southlake and was donated by Chris Hesse. He has a sleek black-and-white pattern that makes him a true standout among the Herd. He wears a ‘25’ brand and joined the Herd during the 25th Anniversary making Blacksmith the perfect addition to the team.</p>
<p>These new steers join the Fort Worth Herd&#8217;s esteemed group of Longhorns, representing a living piece of Texas history. The Herd continues to captivate visitors with its twice-daily cattle drives at 11:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Each addition enhances the Herd&#8217;s mission of educating and inspiring visitors about the legacy of the Chisholm Trail and the role of cattle drives in shaping Texas&#8217; identity.</p>
<p>&#8220;These four new steers bring such unique characteristics and charm to the Herd,&#8221; said Kristin Jaworski, Trail Boss of the Fort Worth Herd. &#8220;We are thrilled to share their stories and introduce them to our visitors. They truly represent the heart of Fort Worth.&#8221;</p>

<p>These funds will support upcoming renovations and provide enhanced care for the Herd’s longhorns, ensuring the program’s ongoing success in celebrating Fort Worth’s Western heritage. With this partnership, the Herd will also be renaming the Observation Deck in honor of TLBAA.</p>
<p>“The TLBAA’s support means so much to our program and our city,” said Kristin Jaworski, Trail Boss for the Fort Worth Herd. “Their partnership helps us provide top-quality care for our longhorns and share the story of Fort Worth’s cowboy culture with visitors from around the world.”</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-36561" src="https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/unnamed-12-1024x824.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="644" srcset="https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/unnamed-12-1024x824.jpg 1024w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/unnamed-12-300x242.jpg 300w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/unnamed-12-248x200.jpg 248w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/unnamed-12-768x618.jpg 768w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/unnamed-12-600x483.jpg 600w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/unnamed-12-1536x1237.jpg 1536w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/unnamed-12-550x443.jpg 550w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/unnamed-12-497x400.jpg 497w, https://tanglewoodmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/unnamed-12.jpg 1847w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p>TLBAA is dedicated to promoting the Texas Longhorn breed — from programs and services to education and scientific research. This collaboration strengthens the connection between the Fort Worth Herd and the breeders who have supported it for years.</p>
<p>The Fort Worth Herd’s twice-daily cattle drive is one of Fort Worth’s top tourist attractions and represents the city’s role at the center of the story of the American West. The Fort Worth Herd reenacts a cattle drive through the Historic Stockyards, the world’s only twice-daily cattle drive. This authentic and historically true event delights visitors and locals alike and pays tribute to early Fort Worth history and its western heritage. <p>Cowboy Conversations is an annual fundraising dinner that benefits the Friends of the Fort Worth Herd, the non-profit organization that supports the Fort Worth Herd by providing funding for horses, feed, tack and veterinary care. The Fort Worth Herd is the world’s only twice-daily cattle drive, the number one attraction in Fort Worth and among the most visited in the state.</p>

<p>Ryan has continued to champion Texas throughout his career and during his post-baseball years. His appearance at this year’s Friends of the Fort Worth Herd fundraising dinner will bring much-deserved attention to the historical significance of the Fort Worth Herd.</p>
<p>“Not only is Nolan Ryan an icon and a role model for young athletes, but he is also an advocate for Texas and the cattle industry,” said Pam Minick, president of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Fort Worth Herd. “We’re honored he will be sharing his time and insights with us and look forward to a memorable evening.”</p>
<p>Joining Ryan on the podium will be Alan Schutts, an avid cattleman and rancher. A former cutting horse champion, Schutts is a past president of Beefmaster Breeders Universal and Honorary Vice President of the Fort Worth Stock Show &amp; Rodeo. Tom Johnson, a cattle rancher and lifelong friend of Ryan and Schutts, will emcee.</p>
