This summer, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art (the Carter) is hosting their annual Midsummer Mingle designed for DFW’s young professionals.

The event features an evening of art, connection, and creativity. Taking place on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Midsummer Mingle offers a lively atmosphere filled with gourmet bites by Bonnell’s Fine Texas Cuisine, signature cocktails, and engaging conversation—all set against the backdrop of the Carter’s distinguished American photography collection.

I dare you to try and resist its magic. It arrives but once a year and is the seasonal thread that ties us to our youth, reminding us of a time when we ran around wild and barefoot, blissfully unaware of the ketchup stains on our shirts. Summer. Something about those long days and warm nights just hits different, likely explaining why the Amon Carter Museum of American Art chooses this enchanting and nostalgic time of year to host one of its signature events, the Carter Society Midsummer Mingle, where young professionals are invited to the best patio in town for an evening of human and cultural connection in celebration of, you guessed it, summer.

“We love doing events on our patio. The view that you get is the Fort Worth skyline, and it’s just stunning, especially in the summer,” according to Stacey Smith, summertime enthusiast and museum membership manager at the Carter.

The evening’s theme is Fire & Ice and will be incorporated into every detail of the night from the cocktails to the site-specific installation by featured artist Justin Ginsberg. Ginsberg, Texas-based and regarded for questioning the known and orderliness, will work with a glass kiln set up on the museum’s lawn each weekend throughout the summer, pulling glass threads measuring up to 30 feet in length. At the end of each glassmaking session, he will install the threads he has created in the Carter’s Main Gallery, resulting in a large-scale glass “waterfall” sculpture. Ginsberg’s glass sculptural work is inspired in part by Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Glass, an upcoming exhibition at the museum (June 26 – September 11) which brings to life the Venetian glass revival between 1860 and 1915, and the artistic experimentation the city inspired for visiting artists. The public will be able to watch Ginsberg at work during his weekend sessions as well as witness the multi-month realization of his unique installation. And with the Midsummer Mingle kicking off his evolving exhibition, attendees will have the opportunity to meet and talk with the artist.

“We try to incorporate an element of the museum with a very social event. It’s a great opportunity to see the museum in a different light and meet an actual artist, which is really fun,” said Smith, who acknowledges that the Carter’s programming is thoughtfully designed to engage all demographics, just not at all once. She assures me that while there is lively children and family programming at the museum, the Midsummer Mingle is for the 21 and up crowd. In other words, there won’t be wild and barefoot kids running around, blissfully unaware of the ketchup stains on their shirts, while you sip a curated cocktail alongside your contemporaries, no doubt impressed by the Carter’s artistic spin on a happy hour.

Whether you’re an art lover or looking for love (in art, that is), you are invited to toast the long days of summer, and, as Smith says, to all the fun times ahead. The Carter Society Midsummer Mingle will take place Thursday, June 16 from 5:30 to 7:30. Admission is free for Carter Society members and $25 for non-members. This Friday at Magdalena’s (502 Grand Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76164), the third annual Midsummer Mingle returns. Attendees will be treated to culinary treats by local chef Juan Rodriguez, former chef at the Reata Restaurant and founder of Magdalena’s. (He’s also the culinary director for Austin City Tacos in case you tacophiles didn’t know.)

Rodriguez’s diligent staff will be cooking up Magdalena’s famous paella (a Spanish rice-based dish that typically contains generous cuts of meats and seafood). The family-style dish will be prepared in a giant wok outside so guests can enjoy watching the preparation while leisurely partaking in samples. Heavier passed hors d’oeuvres will be served in bamboo shoots as well.

As with everything that night, the schedule is relaxed so diners can mix, mingle, wine, and dine at their own pace. Refreshing cocktails, including Palomas (tequila and grapefruit soda), margaritas on the rocks, and whiskey lemonades will ensure that you aren’t parched throughout the evening.

If you aren’t already sold, read on. The evening toast to the summer solstice will pass on champagne in lieu of a rose wine popsicle. One of the event organizers got the idea from an Instagram post.

Past events have largely attracted folks in the 20s to early 40s. We aren’t making promises, but if you’re single, events like these are a great way to meet singles who have common interests. These mixers are also a great way to make new friends. Midsummer Mingle has grown since its launch in June 2017. The idea was to give the Amon Carter’s yp group a reason to celebrate the longest day of the year. The sundown toast isn’t the end of the night. Guests are welcome to stay until 10pm while listening to the dance-inducing beats of DJ Ronnie Heart. The exclusive events are a favorite event for members of the Amon Carter’s young professional group, Society 1949, but there are limited tickets still available to the public. Tanglewood Moms readers will receive a $10 discount (code “Tanglewood”).

As a frequent visitor to the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and as a local writer, I’ve been impressed with the rapid evolution of this beloved cultural institution. Whether it’s the community-centered Party on the Porch events or the new Carter Community Artist program, the venerable museum is showing that its cultural mission extends far beyond its Cultural District walls. If you want to be a part of that unfolding story —or if you simply love good conversations in the welcome company of superlative cocktails and  paella— the Midsummer Mingle is not to be missed.

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is sending off the longest day of the year with their annual Midsummer Mingle to be held on their beautiful front porch. The Amon Carter Museum of American Art has been bringing our community together for over fifty years. It’s home to the once private collection of Amon G. Carter Sr. and includes in its permanent collection masterpieces by great American Artists including Georgia O’Keeffe, Frederic Remington, Charles M. Russell, Stuart Davis, Thomas Eakins, and John Singer Sargent.

When is the big bash?
Midsummer Mingle will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 7-10 PM. They welcome all Society 1949 members and all you folks who wants to join in on the festivities! The delicious menu will be provided by Esperanza’s and include Mexican appetizers, fajitas and churros. Drinks will be crafted by Righteous Foods.

What is Society 1949?
They are a group of museum members who support the Amon Carter with social events tailored for a new generation of art patrons. Members are between the ages of 21 to 45. The year 1949 is significant because that is the year Fort Worth turned 100 and when Mr. Amon G. Carter Sr. announced his intention to establish the museum. The group gathers several times a year to appreciate the artwork and in addition to Midsummer Mingle, they also host a Bulls’ Night Out Rodeo Pre-Party.

What about entertainment?
Watch the glowing sunset bounce off the Fort Worth skyline (arguably the best view of the city) on the longest day of the year and enjoy the beautifully manicured and modernized museum porch and grounds. Sip craft cocktails, eat great food and dance the evening away to the music of Ernesto’s Mariachi who will be performing covers of top 40 music and more for your listening and dancing enjoyment. Wear something festive for the occasion.

Where can I buy tickets and how much do they cost?
Tickets are only $30 for members of the Amon Carter and $50 for non-members. You can purchase tickets here. All proceeds benefit the museum. It is the support of these wonderful members that makes the conservation and care of the beautiful art and free museum admission possible for the public. Memberships also fund important educational programs, fun family friendly events and the installation of special exhibitions.

Why is the Amon Carter so special?
The Amon Carter is unique in many ways. It’s the only place you can see so many works of art by famed western artists Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell. It’s also home to a variety of collections by American masters in sculpture, painting, drawing and photography. With over 150,000 items in the museum’s library, the Amon Carter is considered to be one of the nation’s leaders in research materials and rare literature of American art. The Amon Carter has also been a longstanding unifier of our city, hosting a wide variety of events and educational opportunities for our community.

The longest day of the year should always be cause for celebration. That’s why we’re toasting the sunset and dancing the night away with our friends at the Amon Carter Museum’s Midsummer Mingle event, happening from 7 – 10 p.m. on June 21st.

You’ve probably seen the details of this party advertised on social media, but we’ve got some more scoop on what will be offered. Here are five reasons we’re excited to mix+mingle at the Carter next week.

1. Wear your Whites: Guests are encouraged to wear summer whites to this event to add to the summery-chic look of the party. To the best of my knowledge, Fort Worth hasn’t had a Diner en Blanc party yet, so this is our best bet for a while. Plus, what’s not to love about a party with a simple dress code that makes for an amazing visual aesthetic?
2. Best View in Town: Did you know that Amon Carter chose the location of this museum because he believed it had the best view of Fort Worth? Snap a picture of downtown from the front porch of the Carter, which looks especially twinkly at night. The newly renovated front porch opens out to a gorgeously green lawn that can accommodate many guests, so you can toast high without tapping a stranger standing nearby.
3. DFW Sound: The ambiance will be set by the beautiful sounds of a local favorite, DJ Sober, who is making his first appearance at the Carter for this event. Locals love his sound – so much, in fact, that Erykah Badu and Dirk Nowitzki have asked him to spin for guests at their parties. In other words, this guy is not your run-of-the-mill wedding DJ.
4. Delicious Drinks: A full bar will be stocked and ready for guests, and specialty Tito’s craft cocktails will be created to match the theme of the party. The featured beer of the night will be The Local Buzz. Alcohol isn’t high on your priority list? Then you might like to know that Topo Chico will be hosting a special tasting bar featuring newly released flavors.
5. Food Frenzy: Some parties skimp on food, but this one does not. Guests can enjoy a complimentary taco bar, and lite bites will be passed around by servers all night. Just before sundown, The Beignet Bus will arrive to serve all guests something sweet.

I’ve been a member of the museum for several years, and I keep coming back because the Carter hosts so many spectacular events.
