Drinking and Shopping for Charity
It is nearly time once again for one of Fort Worth’s premier charity events. Wine, Women & Shoes is a super fun girls’ night out supporting a great cause: First Tee – Fort Worth. Tanglewood Moms recently sat down with Janet Herald, Development Coordinator for First Tee – Fort Worth, to get the scoop on this wonderful event.
Tanglewood Moms: Hi Janet. Thanks for talking with us about Wine, Women and Shoes. How did this event originally come about?
Janet Herald: First Tee – Fort Worth was looking for a new fundraising opportunity that would reach a different audience of supporters than golf tournaments do as they lean heavily toward men. I became aware of Wine Women & Shoes and did more research. The event has been held for 15 years at over 250 non-profit organizations across the U.S. and Canada and raised over $120M. It sounded like a perfect opportunity to reach affluent and fashion forward women in our community who care about kids and youth development.
TM: I did not realize Wine, Women & Shoes was such a widespread organization. How long has it been going on in Fort Worth?
JH: 2021 was our first year, so that makes this our 3rd annual event. However, Communities in Schools held the same event for several years in the 2010s, and perhaps some of your readers attended those events too.
TM: Please tell our readers who may not be familiar with it a little bit about First Tee – Fort Worth.
JH: First Tee – Fort Worth is a youth development organization that helps young people ages 5-18 develop character and learn critical life skills through the game of golf. We are helping develop our future leaders and citizens, and through wonderful events like Wine, Women & Shoes, we are able to ensure that no child is turned away for financial reasons.
TM: That’s fantastic! So, the more attendees the better. What has attendance been like historically and do you expect that to change this year?
JH: Each year our goal has been to have 250-300 attendees. The first year we had about 250, but it dropped off last year due to conflict with another big event in town. This year we expect to exceed 250!
TM: Who are your wine and beverage partners this year?
JH: We have some very special partners providing our refreshments. So far, we have PINEA Wine, a Spanish winery with local ownership, Quintessential Wines, and Oak & Eden Bourbon. There will definitely be something to please every palate.
TM: What about retail partners? Who should attendees expect to see this year?
JH: We have a fun and varied shopping experience planned for our attendees; again something for every fashion taste. So far our partners include James Paul Cheung (NYC), Mustard Seed Jewelry, Claire Flowers (St. Louis), and Kendall’s Monograms, and we expect several more to join us in the next few weeks.
TM: Tell me some specifics about the event. When and where is it, and how do our readers buy tickets?
JH: The event will be at the Fort Worth Club on November 15th at 6:00PM. Individual tickets are $150 and we have Girlfriends Tables that seat ten for $1,500. To purchase tickets or a table just go visit the Wine, Women & Shoes website.
TM: How about if one of our readers wants to be a sponsor of the event or make a donation? What can they do?
JH: We have some really great sponsorship opportunities and of course as a non-profit organization supporting youth development, we always welcome donations. Again, they should go to the Wine, Women & Shoes website. There they will find links for donations and our sponsorship packet.
TM: Aside from sipping wine and shopping, what else can our readers expect from Wine, Women & Shoes?
JH: So much! There will be wine tasting stations with our partners, raffles to win wine and a fantastic trip to the Mexican Riviera, live and silent auctions and much more. It really is a fabulous fun-filled night.
OK ladies! Put Wine, Women & Shoes on the calendar and get your tickets now! This event is guaranteed to be a lot of fun and it also supports the youth of Fort Worth. That’s something we can all get behind. See you there!
