Membership Is Their Window to the World
It’s spring, and here in Fort Worth, that means it’s prime Zoo time!
There are few things more enchanting than exploring the Fort Worth Zoo with the kiddos on a gorgeous spring day. My children practically grew up at the Zoo – going to Zoo Camp every summer, doing overnights with their Girl Scout troops, and simply spending mornings communing with their favorite animals. My older loved the orangutans and otters, while my younger would spend the day watching the meerkats if I let her.
While I grew up in Dallas, my family would drive over to go to the Fort Worth Zoo many times every year, and those trips are some of my favorite memories of my childhood. I got my family’s first membership package when my older was about eight months old (they’re almost 19 now), and we’ve been members ever since. We’ve enjoyed every aspect of our membership, from the discounts on the Yellow Rose Express Train (I feel like we should have our names on our favorite seats) and the Carousel to our free subscription to Roar magazine. So many of our family’s memories revolve around our adventures at the Zoo.
Zoo members also enjoy perks like free parking, discounts on events like Boo at the Zoo and Beastro, and discounted guest admission. This summer, when the thermometer has overtopped 100°, you’ll get a 20% discount at Safari Splash. Spend the morning with the animals and the afternoon playing in the water. I promise you that your children will LOVE you!
Another benefit of a year of membership means that you can watch the Zoo’s newest babies as they grow. Bruno, the western lowland gorilla, was born on November 6, and it’s a joy to watch him explore and learn from the older members of the gorilla troop. And the Zoo’s newest baby is Travis, the Asian elephant! Named for William B. Travis, hero of the Alamo, this 270-pound bundle of joy was born on February 23. You can catch Travis exploring his beautiful habitat, Elephant Springs, with his mother, Belle, who was also born at the Zoo in 2013.
If you ask my children what their favorite summer memories are, they will both say Zoo Camp. Forget the trips to the South Carolina or Washington coasts. Forget the treks to the mountains in Colorado. Zoo Camp was THE event of the summer, as far as they were concerned. They learned so much and made some great friends. In fact, registration for both Summer Zoo Camp and the 2023-2024 Zoo Preschool are open now, and members get a 10% discount.
Truly, there is no better time to get a year’s membership to the Zoo. Membership to the Fort Worth Zoo is a window to the world and is full of lifelong memories for your family and friends. They make a wonderful gift (hello, grandparents!) and help support the Zoo’s conservation mission.
