“Her Servant’s Heart Was True” – Remembering Chanel
There are so many great Cook Children’s Medical Center that we, quite literally, cannot list them all. However, one of the BEST things is the Sit… Stay… PLAY program that allows patients and their families to hug on and play with some of the best darn dogs anywhere.
That’s why we here at Tanglewood Moms were so sorry to hear of the recent passing of one of Sit… Stay… PLAY’s dogs, Chanel. Here’s what Chanel’s person, Kat Davitt, had to say about her.
“Chanel and her brother Ralph began the program in 2014, and she has supported countless numbers of patient’s, families and staff since that time. It is unusual to meet a person who is living exactly the life they were meant to live, but Chanel was a dog who was lucky enough to do just that.
Many of you know she was diagnosed with epilepsy in the fall. Her seizures had escalated and her vets were trying to control them with her medication but today her seizures could not be stopped. Her handler team, office mates, vet, chaplain and other special friends were with her at the end of her life to offer her love, comfort and encouragement.
She was blessed to be at work yesterday; still able to do the work she loved doing, supporting patients and families. There was not a morning that she was not excited to put on her green vest and jump in the car. Her tail wag was strong when she knew it was time to go ‘see her friends’ In Chanel’s career she worked in the Neurology Clinic, the inpatient Oncology/Hematology floor, with Pain Team and the Trauma & Surgery Recovery unit and loved these patients and every other child she met.
I can only image how many of the precious children she’s known will be there to meet her with greetings and love as she crosses over. Her reach was deep and wide so she will be missed by people in every corner of the medical center and the community. Her servant’s heart was true.”
