Worthy Convos: Dr. Priya Bui of UNT Health Clinical Practice Group
We started Worthy Convos to highlight people doing good and interesting things in our community. Dr. Priya Bui, DO, is the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Women’s Health at UNT Health Fort Worth and is also a pediatrician at the UNT Health Clinical Practice Group. She graciously took the time to participate in this Worthy Convo.

Tanglewood Moms: Please tell us the history of UNT Health Clinical Practice Group as a whole.
Dr. Priya Bui: UNT Health Clinical Practice Group has been on the campus of UNT Health Fort Worth since the early 1970s. It has been an integral part of what we do in educating the medical professionals of the future. The Clinical Practice Group has always been a community-facing clinic with dedicated physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and medical professionals committed to taking care of patients.

TWM: What is the history of pediatrics in the Clinical Practice Group and UNT Health?
Dr. Bui: Pediatrics was part of the clinic’s mission from the beginning, with pediatric patients receiving care in the same location still used today. We have had satellite clinics in the past, but the core of our practice has been right here in the heart of Fort Worth’s Cultural District. It has been an outpatient clinic with pediatricians dedicated to taking care of children from Fort Worth and beyond. We have offered some specialty care, but the heart of our service is general pediatrics, from newborns to young adults.
TWM: What sets the Clinical Practice Group pediatrics apart from other pediatric practices in the area?
Dr. Bui: The Clinical Practice Group is a thriving, energetic practice with a commitment to providing compassionate, up-to-date care for our patients while modeling that standard of care for our students. Our dedication to serving as role models for future healthcare professionals sets us apart as clinicians.
Additionally, we have interdisciplinary teams that include social workers and dietetic interns, as well as integrated behavioral health, counseling, neuropsychiatry, and speech and language services. This allows patients to address physical, developmental, and acute needs with the clinicians they already know and trust. We want these conversations and connections to happen in our clinic so that we can help families with the best growth and development of their children.
TWM: What services do you offer besides yearly checkups?
Dr. Bui: We also offer sick visits, chronic management visits, such as for asthma, and nutritional counseling or developmental guidance. Our general pediatricians are the first line for any concerns for parents. Additionally, we offer neuropsychiatry evaluation and conversations with Dr. Samantha Saldaña. This testing can be discussed directly with your primary care physician at the clinical practice group, which takes a team-based approach to best address these needs.
TWM: How does pediatrics differ for infants, children, and teens?
Dr. Bui: Pediatrics is a dynamic field of medicine with children changing physically, emotionally, and mentally as they age within our practice. We treat each child based on their stage of age and development. We follow age-based guidance for screening, physical exams, and recommendations. As children grow, we involve them in conversations about their health and well-being, helping them develop a strong sense of self and healthy habits as they approach adulthood.
TWM: How does the practice engage with the community?
Dr. Bui: We are a community-centric department with various community services. We serve our community through the Pediatric Mobile Clinic, breaking down barriers to care. We also provide child and adolescent mental health services through our school-based clinics. Both services are charitable programs which we are happy to provide.

TWM: What are the benefits of being part of UNT Health?
Dr. Bui: The greatest benefit is being part of an institution committed to continuous improvement. As an academic institution, we are energized by future physicians, nurses and PAs, which drives us to continually pursue better care and stay up to date on the latest advances. Our patients also contribute to the education of future healthcare professionals who go on to practice throughout DFW and beyond.
TWM: Have technological advances changed the way the practice works with its patients?
Dr. Bui: Our practice does have advances such as AI charting, which can help the clinician document accurately and in a timely manner.
TWM: What are the most important milestones parents should discuss with their pediatrician during a child’s first five years?
Dr. Bui: The first five years of parenthood can be challenging as your child constantly grows and changes. Pediatricians are honored to be a trusted resource you can turn to with questions about your child’s growth, development, nutrition, safety, and vaccines, as well as the stresses, successes, and experiences that come from your family’s journey.
TWM: And finally, what is ONE thing that you would like our members and readers to know about the practice?
Dr. Bui: We care about your children and would love to partner with you as their pediatrician.
