Worthy Convos: That Sun Coast Glow

Inspired by her family’s travels near water, Hollie Palmer developed a wellness brand that would keep skin glowing long after your beach vacation. Sun Coast, based in Fort Worth, is a line of products known to exfoliate, nourish, and revitalize dry or dull skin. With an emphasis on clean and all-natural ingredients, Palmer says Sun Coast is a “therapeutic combination of skin and mind rejuvenation.”

I love the word “mompreneur.” Tell me what that’s like. 

Really my reality is that my dad provided for me for a long time, and I am extremely grateful for the start and example he provided. I wanted to try something on my own that I was passionate about. I am 50 and I wanted a business that made me feel good and made my kids proud.

Most entrepreneurs get their start because of a frustrating experience. What was yours?

I was not satisfied with the products on the market and wanted to make sure that anyone in the same position had options. I won’t sell something that I don’t believe in.

Was there a moment in your journey when you thought about giving up? 

No, because my desire was to be successful in my own right and not depending on other people. I want to secure mine and my children’s future the way my Dad showed me.

How did you even know where to begin when creating a skin scrub? I imagine that requires formula research, testing, etc. 

Fortunately for us, the Salt Scrub had already been developed by the time I purchased the rights to it. It was already a good product, however, I wanted to make changes based on my belief in clean and sustainability. So, we went with organic and essential oils and moved away from fragrances.

What is the connection between coastlines and wellness?

My love of travel, beaches, and the ocean. It takes you away from the daily grind and creates a calmness in me. It recenters me. It brings me happiness.

What is your skincare routine?

I use our salt scrub daily in the shower and keep it by the sink for my hands. I also use our silk finish for the final touch. It helps to keep my skin soft and hydrated. I love to try new products that make my skin look younger but that are good for you. I use ZO Skin Health by Doctor Zein Obagi. They have a night and day serum that I use.
