Summer Reading
You’re sitting by the pool, soaking up the sun. The kids are frolicking in the water. You’ve just thumbed through your third magazine of the day and somewhere between the 99th “Hey mommy, watch me!” and the 100th Facebook refresh you realize you’re bored.
Don’t fret dolls, we know just what you need. A book! That’s right a real life, 250 word per page paper and ink boredom slayer. Summer is the perfect time to dust off that rusty reading habit that you neglected all year because you were busy packing lunches and tying shoes and driving to violin lessons and baseball practice and doing algebra homework and class projects and tending to the sick and washing the clothes and running your monogram or home-show business. Whew! It was an exhausting nine months, but you made it. Now, breathe a sigh of relief because summer is the time to slow down a little, smell the roses and escape into a great book.
We’ve compiled a list of five must-reads based on recommendations from other frenetic moms who’ve taken a moment this summer to unwind and lose themselves in a wonderful story.
- All The Light We Cannot See
- The Girl On The Train
- The Husband’s Secret
- The Art Of Racing In The Rain
- The Light Between Oceans
Reading a really good book is one of the few activities in life that is at once a luxury and a virtue. There’s really nothing else that feels so good that you can feel so good about. So, do yourself a favor pick up one or all of these books and do something for you.
The kids will still be yelling at you to watch the 150th cannon ball of the morning and Facebook will wait quietly until you refresh your news feed again later, but in the meantime, you get to indulge yourself a little bit. You deserve it. And if you have additional suggestions, please be sure to note them in the comments.
You must read the new Judy Blume: In the Unlikely Event!!
