Texas Ballet Theater’s Summer Camps for Little Dancers to Experienced Ballerinas
Do you have a little one who loves to dance? Or maybe an older dancer who wants to keep their skills sharp over the summer? Texas Ballet Theater’s summer programs have both in-person and virtual options for every age and every skill level.
Ballet Basics is designed to introduce three- to six-year-old dancers the fundamentals of ballet, with emphasis on the “fun!” Each week has a different theme to allow for creativity. A week of fabulous Fancy Nancy fun is followed by a week of oceanic adventures that includes sailing with Moana, swimming with Nemo, and surfing with Lilo and Stitch. Your children will explore movement, music, and ballet fundamentals while tapping into their imaginations. This program is the perfect opportunity to see if your little mover and shaker is a ballerina!
The Young Dancer Intensive introduces dancers ages seven through nine to a variety of styles of dancing, including tap and jazz, while refining your dancer’s ballet technique. Texas Ballet Theater’s Mary Ashley Ray says the program is “comprehensive but not overwhelming… it’s a really great opportunity for dancers to keep up with what they’ve learned at their studios, whether it’s TBT or another studio.”
The Junior Intensive program is a wonderful opportunity for more experienced dancers, ages nine through fourteen, who want to keep their skills sharp and work on artistic expression and technique, as well as performance skills. This program is for the experienced dancer, but again, it’s not necessary for the dancer to have danced at TBT before.
Of course, every program, regardless of the age or skill level is taught by TBT’s acclaimed teaching staff. Additionally, each program will finish with a virtual student showcase for family and friends.
The virtual programming will go hand-in-hand with in-person classes. Admissions for all these programs are rolling, Mary Ashley says. “We will take people all summer… flexibility is the name of the game here!”
Because this February’s Winter Storm Uri froze the pipes and left the Fort Worth studio ankle deep in water, rendering the space unusable, all summer classes in Fort Worth will be held at Trinity Valley School. “It’s been long process since February, but we’re finally moving forward,” Mary Ashley says. “We’re so grateful for the collaboration with Trinity Valley to allow our students to continue to learn.”
