The Arena We Need
In case you somehow missed it, the shining new gem in Fort Worth’s architectural and event venue landscape is Dickies Arena. Located next to the Will Roger’s Memorial Center campus in Fort Worth’s Cultural District, the arena was designed by David M. Schwarz Architects. With its Southwest Art Deco facades, the new arena looks like the old buildings nearby, and architecturally, it fits in nicely. The similarities with the older structures end there.
Dickies Arena is a state of the art event venue that will host a myriad of concerts, plays, shows, and of course, the Fort Worth Stock Show rodeo performances. Scheduled to open in November, the first show at the new arena will be a Twenty One Pilots concert on November 8th, followed quickly by The Black Keys on the 14th. But it isn’t all rock concerts. On November 15th and 16th, Dickies Arena will host Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live; fun for kids from 2 to 102!
But, I digress. The new arena fills a gap in Fort Worth’s venue portfolio. The convention center, while perfect for conventions, has an arena that is simply outdated, and Will Rogers Coliseum, apart from also being outdated, is just too small. Going forward, the convention center will focus on conventions, the coliseum will be host to smaller equestrian events, and Dickies Arena will be the arena we need but haven’t had for a long time.
Fort Worth is the 5th largest city in Texas and the 13th largest in the entire nation. Yet for years, we have had to drive to Dallas to catch a big show. Dickies Arena will finally give the city and arena management the ability to attract large venue productions and events. Now we will get to see shows like Disney On Ice, The Harlem Globetrotters and Cirque du Soleil as well as some big time college basketball games (Texas vs Texas A&M and TCU vs USC), right here in our own town.
The way the arena is designed, there won’t be a bad seat in the house. However, there are always some seats that are better than others, and the best way to ensure your family, friends, and business associates don’t miss a minute of the fun is with premium seating. For the time being most premium seats are already sold out, but there is still some amazing Club Level seating available.
