April Is the Sweetest Month for Fun in the Fort

Next post

Helloooooooooooooo April!

Honestly, April is one of my favorite months in the Fort. There’s so much to do, and our city is just beautiful! And this year, we have the total solar eclipse (see sites to watch below), plus the Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival AND the Main St. Arts Festival! We’ve gathered the best of great, family-friendly activities in Cowtown, so be sure to bookmark this page to refer to all month long!

Celebrating its 10th year, the Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival continues to be one of THE events of the Fort Worth calendar. Showcasing local chefs, brewers, distillers, and more, the FWFWF not only is the most delicious event of the year, it raises money for scholarships and grants for local industry personnel. Click the link above for tickets – they’re going fast!

Spring Plant Sale

Marie and Rosetta
April 5-28

Amphibian Stage

Witness the collision of gospel and rock as DFW favorite Denise Lee embodies the incomparable “Godmother of Rock ‘N’ Roll,” legendary Sister Rosetta Tharpe. The play chronicles Tharpe’s first rehearsal with protégée Marie Knight in 1947, setting the stage for a historic tour that would establish them as one of the most significant music duos of the 20th century. Despite their influence on Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles and more, Knight and Tharpe go largely uncredited for their contributions to rock and roll. George Brant’s play aims to correct historical oversights by providing a stage for Marie and Rosetta to share their story through powerful performances. Don’t miss the chance to witness the birth of a musical legacy that transcends time with an unforgettable night of toe-tapping, head-bopping-and soul-lifting entertainment.

TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE on Monday, April 8

A total solar eclipse is coming to Fort Worth on Monday, April 8. A solar eclipse occurs when the sun, moon, and Earth are lined up in space, with the moon between the earth and the sun. During the total eclipse, the moon will blot out the entire sun. For a few minutes, it will look and feel like twilight. The moon will start to block the sun around noon on April 8. Totality will begin at 1:30 p.m. and last from a few seconds to about 4 1/2 minutes depending on where you are along the path. Only those in the path of totality will get the full eclipse experience. Time of totality in Fort Worth is expected to be 1:41 p.m. The next solar eclipse in DFW will not be until 2345, so get to one of the locations below to experience this amazing once-in-several-lifetimes experience!

Fort Worth Zoo
Howl the animals react to “extraordinary darkness?” The Fort Worth Zoo is in the path of totality of the solar eclipse on April 8, and they’re excited to use this opportunity to partner with a research team to observe what, if any, effect the total eclipse has on animal behavior.

Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge
If you are looking for a place to view the eclipse, come out to the Nature Center. We will have a telescope set up for you to get a great and safe view of the eclipse. Bring your tent chairs and hang out in a peaceful spot just taking it in and tracking it to its totality. We will have an activity for the kids to track the eclipse.

    The Mattress Factory

A Fort Worth Original Since 1896! Harry Keeton, Sr., began selling mattress supplies in Fort Worth, Texas, back in 1896. Little did he know that this was the beginning of what was later to become the fastest growing chain of factory direct sleep stores. His two sons, Harry and Frank took over the business and expanded into Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and California; shipping furniture and mattress supplies all over the world. Four generations later, Peter Duncan, Jr., realized that there was a need for Factory Direct Marketing and began selling his products directly to the consumer at wholesale prices. This concept has spread like wildfire. Public acceptance has been overwhelming. This great demand has caused the Mattress Factory to become a leader in the industry. Our production exceeds 10000 pieces manufactured each year. Our buying power, along with the "no middleman" concept give maximum savings, which are passed along to the customer... you! When you purchase from the Original Mattress Factory you save 50% off the purchase price at a retail store.
