Fun in the Fort

This Fun in the Fort Is HOT!

Next post

August in the Fort is HOT, y’all!

No, seriously. It’s hot out there. Like danger-of-spontaneously-bursting-into-flames hot. So we have rounded up some of the best things to do INSIDE this month. Be sure to bookmark this page so you can refer to it all month long!

DFW Restaurant Week
August 1-September 1
Restaurants around DFW

Explore a variety of cuisines with premier restaurants across Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton counties through an expanded selection of prix-fixe menu dining options – including lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and Signature Experience dinners. Approximately 20 percent of the cost of each meal will be donated to NTFB in the Dallas area or Lena Pope in the Tarrant area. (Did you know that DFW Restaurant Week is the second oldest restaurant week in the nation, second only to New York City? It is, so get out and EAT!)

Imposter! Hypocrite! Tartuffe!
August 1-24

Circle Theatre

Wit, cunning, and hypocrisy are on full display in this punk-rock remake of Moliere’s classic farce. Circle Theatre’s Artistic Director Ashley H. White+ pens a new approach to the iconic play. Get ready for a swift, unapologetic whirlwind that reintroduces the timeless tale of a man who deploys his charm and feigned piety in an attempt to disrupt a household. However, his clever scheme is no match for the astute women of the family who decide to beat him at his own game. Tartuffe may believe himself to be a master of deception, but he’s seriously underestimated his targets (or perhaps, overestimated his own abilities).

The Carter Summer Film Series: Rocketship X-M (1950)
August 3
Amon Carter Museum of American Art

In August, watch Rocketship X-M (1950), a campy, science fiction film about a moon expedition gone awry. Through a series of unforeseen events, the astronauts are thrown off course and land on Mars. The crew find evidence of a once great civilization that was almost completely destroyed by an atomic war. The Martians that survived have reverted to a caveman-like existence. (The film was featured in the second season premiere of the cult television series Mystery Science Theater 3000.)

Sister Act
August 15-18

Bass Performance Hall

Jubilee Theatre presents the hit Broadway musical based on the 1992 film! When disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.

    The Mattress Factory

A Fort Worth Original Since 1896! Harry Keeton, Sr., began selling mattress supplies in Fort Worth, Texas, back in 1896. Little did he know that this was the beginning of what was later to become the fastest growing chain of factory direct sleep stores. His two sons, Harry and Frank took over the business and expanded into Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and California; shipping furniture and mattress supplies all over the world. Four generations later, Peter Duncan, Jr., realized that there was a need for Factory Direct Marketing and began selling his products directly to the consumer at wholesale prices. This concept has spread like wildfire. Public acceptance has been overwhelming. This great demand has caused the Mattress Factory to become a leader in the industry. Our production exceeds 10000 pieces manufactured each year. Our buying power, along with the "no middleman" concept give maximum savings, which are passed along to the customer... you! When you purchase from the Original Mattress Factory you save 50% off the purchase price at a retail store. Mention Tanglewood Moms and receive 10% off! 800-211-7378 toll free 817-334-0361 (local Fort Worth)
