It’s the new year, and you’re ready for a change. You’ve cleaned out your closets and donated the clothes your family no longer wears. Now you’d like to refresh your wardrobe as part of your overall self-renewal plan. To this end, Madeworthy talked with Paige Walker, a Fort Worth-based photographer, content creator, and founder of Ivy Society, an online shop dedicated to sorority, fraternity, and team swag.

Madeworthy: January often feels like a natural reset. Why is the start of a new year such a powerful time to refresh your wardrobe instead of completely reinventing it?

Paige Walker: That January energy really does hit differently. Last year, in an attempt to become the queen of positive affirmations, I taped a note to my mirror that said, “I am Paige, and only good things happen for me.”

When it comes to your wardrobe, the new year is the perfect time for a simple refresh – no need to reinvent yourself. Just start by removing those jeans that hurt your feelings and take inventory of the pieces you wear on repeat that actually fit your real life.

MW: What key silhouettes, colors, or fabrics feel “new” and fresh for this year without feeling trendy or overdone?

PW: We are seeing a throwback to 1980s office wear, but in a less traumatic way. Strong, padded shoulders with cinched waists are back. You may be winging it, but this powerful silhouette says, “I know what I’m doing.” Elongated lines are everywhere – wide-leg trousers, longer coats, and anything that makes you feel tall and put together.

Lingerie as outerwear is back. Go for satin slip skirts, lace-trimmed camis, and corset-style tops for that feminine, flirty feeling.

The preppy look continues into 2026 with v-neck sweaters, rugby shirts, blazers, and loafers. And I’m talking actual preppy, not the new age, rebranded preppy that the tweens have taken over.

Add some beaded jewelry, polka dots, fringe, wedge sneakers, and brut denim for easy wardrobe updates. Color-wise, anything goes! I’m seeing bold colors, pastels, and neutrals so stick to what makes you feel good.

MW: What are some go-to pieces that work beautifully for church but can also transition to brunch or errands afterward?

PW: Blend modest and trendy with flowy midi dresses, wide leg trousers, tailored blazer-and-shorts sets, and skirts with sweaters. Layer with a camel trench coat, cardigan, or leather jacket.

Spring 2026 Looks courtesy of Paige Walker

MW: What are your favorite chic-but-functional outfit ideas for moms on the sidelines?

PW: Sideline outfits need to survive weather, snacks, folding chairs, and emotional highs and lows. I stick to comfortable pants like baggy jeans, wide-leg sweatpants, or flare leggings, layers, and sneakers. A simple tee with a loose hoodie always works.

MW: What are three date-night essentials every woman should keep in her closet in 2026?

PW: On a date, I want to feel hot, but also like I can eat and not have to hold my breath all night. A great top is a must. Something that flirts a little, you know the type. A great pair of jeans that will never betray you, and a little black dress you can dress up or down is essential for everyone.

MW: What’s your formula for looking polished on long travel days without sacrificing comfort?

PW: If I can’t sit crisscross applesauce, eat snacks, and take a nap in an outfit, it’s an immediate no. Soft activewear, layers, comfy shoes, and your everyday jewelry are best.

MW: As a photographer, what common mistakes do people make when choosing outfits for family photos?

PW: Try to coordinate instead of match. When everyone shows up in the same color, the result can feel like a staff photo. Start with Mom’s outfit and work off that to pick the rest of the family’s clothes. I also do not like toddlers in puffer vests. The corners of the collar will inevitably move to cover the kid’s face at the cutest moment. Try on the clothes first and make sure they fit. I’ve had so many clients get to the shoot saying they just tried on the clothes right before, only to find that Mom’s dress won’t zip and the little boy’s pants are enormous.

MW: If you could give women one simple “style reset” rule to follow in 2026, what would it be?

PW: Nothing looks better than confidence, so wear what makes you feel your best.

This issue of Madeworthy is all about design—home design, landscape design, and fashion design—so it was natural to reach out to Phillip Maximillian, the founding genius and Creative Director of Fort Worth Fashion Week and the owner and designer of a bespoke clothing brand in Fort Worth.

Fort Worth Fashion Week is a whole week of events that happens twice a year – Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter. Most events of this size can take an entire year to plan for that one day, so imagine a whole week of events with multiple events on the same day. As Fort Worth Fashion Week events grow and evolve, I constantly need to think bigger and better and outside of the box, and it all starts with questions.

How are we going to approach this season? Is there a theme? Are there specific genres or trends of clothing that we would like to focus on? Are there brands or designers that are releasing their new collections?

And then it’s Fashion Week, and we are hosting the shows. My favorite part of the whole process is the production of the shows. During each show, I have to be really dialed in because the production level is so important. As an owner of a clothing company and a designer myself, I understand how much work goes into creating a collection and how important it is for the designer to present their pieces in a way that best conveys their vision to the audience.

Fashion Week begins with coordinating with the designers and brands on what they envision for their fashion show. We discuss everything from the individual pieces and the models to the choreography and setting. Every fashion show is different. Music, proper lighting, down to the arrangement of seating – it’s all in the details. And it gets pretty wild backstage. It’s a room full of models getting their hair and makeup finished, designers doing garment logistics, photographers and videographers trying to get the best shots, all while I have to ensure everything operates seamlessly before, during, and after the show. This insanity lasts seven consecutive days, not including all the pre-show rehearsals.

Once all the shows in a season of Fort Worth Fashion Week are over, we are already planning the next season. There are no days off for me. While I’m planning and organizing each Fashion Week, I’m also creating the next collection for my brand, Mener Grand Train Co., which specializes in men’s bespoke suits and women’s couture. Designing forces my mind to be creative, and it allows me to keep perfecting my craft. From patternmaking to construction, designing gives me a keen eye for seeing every detail down to the stitching and thread.

Fort Worth Fashion Week has given our whole team the chance to meet and work with so many amazing people and make a difference in our city. Our partnerships with TCU’s Department of Fashion Merchandising and with the Fort Worth Independent School District provide students with valuable experience in the fashion industry by offering opportunities for hands-on learning and career development. We collaborate with the students on their school projects, and we host annual fashion show fundraisers that support students’ growth and development in the field of design and merchandising. We are mentoring the next generation of designers who may debut their collections at Fort Worth Fashion Week.

For all the craziness, I love that I get to pursue my passion, and having a great team by my side has made all the difference. Each season brings something new. Nike showcased their latest Nike Well Collective collection in Autumn/Winter 2023. We brought multiple Texas universities together for the first-of-its-kind collaborative fashion show at the Modern Art Museum. That event, in particular, was a huge success.

We’re excited for the upcoming season of Fort Worth Fashion Week. We’ve been working on a significant project for it, although specific details cannot be revealed at this time. However, I can share exclusive information about one of the season’s main events, which focuses on creating a new historical moment in Fort Worth and honors a pivotal event in American fashion history. You can expect a unique approach to the fashion show, with leading designers presenting their collections on the runway. I can’t disclose the location yet, but I can confirm that it will take place at a Fort Worth landmark in late autumn.

We look forward to sharing more details about our upcoming events very soon.

The post Behind the Scenes of Fort Worth Fashion Week first appeared on Tanglewood Moms.

Christi Braswell’s earliest lessons in fashion came from her grandmother, Ann Stevens, and her great-grandmother, Avis Livingston. Both women raised families in the Ridglea Hills neighborhood of Fort Worth, and both set an example for the future fashion entrepreneur.

“They were always well-dressed, and I admired that,” Christi recalled. “I loved their fur coats, and [I] later inherited them.”

Last year, Braswell began her first venture as an entrepreneur after spending 12 years raising her son, Roman Braswell, as a stay-at-home mom. When Christi realized there were few options for relining her grandmother’s and great-grandmother’s coats with custom silks, she began learning about the silk industry and patternmaking.

“I’ve learned a lot about silk over the past year,” Christi said. “I like quiet luxury. What is luxurious to this person might be different to you. I lined one coat for a girl who sent me a photo of a cow. I made it look fashion-forward and pretty. It is meaningful to her.”

Wild Silks launched in March. The company designs and sells an exclusive range of scarves, twillies [a twilly is a long, narrow, double-sided silk scarf], and jacket linings and is barely five months old, but her business connections and partners already span the globe and include Italian fashion houses Silkpro and Silk Lab Italy and New York City-based Lost Pattern New York.

Andrew Hunt, who took over ownership of local furrier David Hunt Furs in 2018, was an early supporter of Christi’s vision. She was a regular customer who — like thousands of North Texas women — brought her coats to David Hunt Furs for safe storage every summer. When she told Andrew that she was learning to realign fur coats with custom silks, he had an idea.

“Why am I buying lining from a third party?” Andrew recalled. “Why don’t I work with her?”

The partnership allows Wild Silks to use David Hunt Furs’ store and showroom. When new and long-time customers purchase a new fur coat or bring in an heirloom to be relined, they now have the option of customizing the lining. Christi sets up a time to meet with the customer at the store to discuss what they want.

Starting with a questionnaire, Christi notes favorite colors and what themes or specific designs they want to incorporate. Sometimes, the customer has a picture or a favorite pet that they bring. Then, she works with her design partner, Molly Stevens, to draft three to six digital mockups for the customer. Andrew said the partnership has been beneficial to both their businesses.

Although Christi exclusively handles customer conversations – her favorite part of her job, she said – much of the design work happens collaboratively between her and Molly. Both women contribute unique designs to Wild Silks’ scarves and twillies. Molly describes her creative process of taking Christi’s notes and bringing them to digital fruition.

“We start with what [the customer’s] likes are,” Molly said. “They may have a particular design or color in mind. Then, my creative mind takes over. I like to come back with a few different options for them to pick from. The silk printing process retains the essence of the original art. I enjoy seeing the vision come to life from the design I create. When you finally get to touch it and wear it, that’s my favorite part. It’s gone from inside my head to being out in the world.”

Andrew said the blending of silk and fur options at his store is a “peanut butter and jelly” combination that customers appreciate.

“Adding [Wild Silk’s] scarves to our inventory made sense because that’s a big thing for the stock shows,” he said. “With my experience on the fur side, I have been able to help Christi navigate that world while using my store as a home base. Customers love her because she is very genuine, and everything comes from the heart.”

Fort Worthians approach furs differently than Chicagoans or New Yorkers, Andrew continued.

“People up North buy furs for warmth,” he said. “Here, it’s more for fashion reasons. You may want to wear it to a rodeo or with jeans. You want something versatile that will stay in style. When you have daughters, you can pass it on to them. I’ve known people’s grandmothers and moms who have coats that my dad [David Hunt] started them with. It’s a really personal thing.”

Younger women who inherit their mother’s or grandmother’s furs and don’t want a full-length coat can work with David Hunt Furs and Wild Silks to repurpose the outerwear into a fur shawl, purse, vest, jacket, or even a rug. Christi said it’s the fur that matters to the women who inherited the coats, not necessarily the form it later takes on.

While the idea was born from a desire to find linings for heirloom fur coats, Wild Silks is increasingly focused on creating custom scarves and twillies. Any product sold by Wild Silks is of the highest quality, sold in eco-friendly packaging, and crafted by women earning fair wages.

“Our scarves are hand-rolled, not machine-rolled,” she said. “That is a very traditional method that is rarely done anymore. The businesses I work with give these women gainful employment so they can provide for their kids. That’s important to me because I’ve been a stay-at-home mom until recently.”

Christi recently visited Northern Italy to see firsthand the work of Wild Silk’s top silk producers. She always leaves the artisans she visits with small gifts as a sign of her gratitude and an example of Texas hospitality.

“If I meet with someone, I bring a product, and I leave it for the team,” she said. “I want them to have a piece of Texas. It shows them something about me and where I come from. My designs are different from theirs. That was fun for them. They were proud to show me the behind-the-scenes of their factory and were eager and excited to work with someone from Texas. They call me the ‘Texas girl.’ I was nervous [to meet them] at first, but the visit gave me the confidence to know that I’m good at what I’m doing.”

Christi plans to travel around three times per year to meet the silk producers she works with in person, stay up to date with world trends, and be inspired by other cultures.

She said the countries involved in fabricating and printing designs on silk are masters in different types of silk and printing techniques. Some of her scarves are printed in Europe, while others come from China.

“One company may do better with lightweight, breathable silk while another is better for thicker materials or hand-rolling,” she said. “Anywhere you go, people are making cheap stuff and high-quality stuff. I want to be versatile, and I’m picky.”

In September of 2024, Christi is attending New York Fashion Week as the guest of Yong Wang, CEO of Lost Pattern New York. She will use the opportunity to make new friends and business connections as she grows Wild Silks’ footprint. Many of her current connections have started with cold calls to silk producers and printmakers. Not every call leads to a business connection; sometimes, the deal depends on whether their personalities mesh.

The silk maven often jokes that one of her most significant assets is her love of talking to anyone she finds, but there’s more to her socializing gifts than gabbing. Anyone who knows Christi personally (myself included) knows she’s an equally attentive listener who can meet people on their level and make them feel immediately valued and appreciated.

Christi has scheduled meetings with big-name retailers interested in purchasing her silk products for the fall of 2024. Andrew said their collaborations will continue to grow, as well. Fort Worth is not known for launching original luxury clothing lines that sell nationally and internationally. However, that could change in the coming years, given the fast growth of Wild Silks and the new connections Christi and Andrew have made over the past few months.

The explosive growth of Fort Worth and its growing reputation, thanks in part to our “cowboys and culture” heritage, as well as the popularity of new Western-themed shows on major streaming services, are creating new opportunities for a Fort Worth-based clothing brand to benefit from Cowtown’s growing cultural and economic footprint.

Christi said her growing product line is and will likely always be customizable and unique.

“My passion is personalizing fabrics and silks to make each coat unique,” she said. “I love having a third piece, whether that’s a belt, scarf, jacket, or handbag. It completes the look. Personally, I can put on a fur coat over athleisure wear. Whatever makes me feel good, that’s what is in style for me.”

Molly, who is in her twenties, said Wild Silks appeals to women of all ages. The tiny but mighty duo is preparing to launch TCU-themed silk products that should prove popular this year. Plans are in the works to feature prints based on original works by local artists. Molly added that the first samples of Wild Silks’ new ties and bowties for men recently arrived.

“Fort Worth feels small, but it is also so big,” she said. “There are so many things you can do with silk, which means we can continually grow and do so many things with it and not just stick with the scarves. We’re excited about seeing where it can possibly go.”

Wild Silks’ Western sensibilities, Molly added, will always be at the core of the company’s design work. Andrew said the feedback from locals about the new custom silk linings and scarves has been “great” and that Wild Silks’ full line of scarves and twillies is ready to meet heavy demand this fall.

“[Christi and Molly] love the products, and [that’s seen] even in the presentation of the boxes,” he said.

Wild Silks started with fur linings and then branched out into silk scarves and other silk products. Now, the design of each new product doesn’t feel like starting over, Christi said. She is already researching how to print on new textiles, like intricately woven jacquard fabric, and design garments from scratch. (Hint: She’s open to launching a clothing line.) The fashion world always favors bold new ideas, Christi said, adding that she plans to do everything she can to focus on her future business relationships with people with whom she has personal connections.

After graduating from TCU with a degree in psycho-social kinesiology, Christi Braswell spent most of her adult life focused on raising her son. The recent jump into entrepreneurship was inspired by her familial elders who tirelessly worked as firefighters, engineers, and other fields. She also wants to set an example for her son while proving to herself that she has what it takes to build something beautiful.

“It’s an exciting time,” she said. “I now believe in myself and know I have it in me to do this.”

The post Wild at Heart first appeared on Tanglewood Moms.

Madeworthy reached out to Samantha Stewart of Style of Sam and Frank Moss of Franklin & Anthony to talk about fashion and this year’s spring trends.

It’s no surprise these fashion experts chose Pantone’s 2022 color of the year, Very Peri, for their inspiration. Both hit the nail on the head, looking at once formidable and alluring. Samantha said to be on trend for spring, add bright colors, platform heels, preppy looks, micro miniskirts, and low-rise pants. She also warned not let trends dictate your entire look and to wear what works best for you.

Madeworthy: What role does fashion play in your life?

Franklin Moss: Fashion is the key part of my business. Being the owner of Franklin & Anthony Suit Company that helps create looks (suits, trousers, waistcoats, jeans and shirts from scratch) for clients’ daily life, as well as those needing suits for special occasions, allows me to use fashion to serve people, helping them mentally and physically with confidence and pride in themselves, like clothes have done for me in my past.

Frank Moss

Samantha Stewart: I’ve always loved fashion and use it to express myself creatively and emotionally. My mantra “Dress for How You WANT to Feel” is something that I do daily. My love for fashion started at a young age when my mother and I would watch the “Fashion Report” on the news with Christiane Amanpour. We grew up modestly, and I used inspiration from magazines to recreate outfits with what I had in my closet (which wasn’t much). It taught me to be resourceful and creative when it comes to clothes.

MW: What do you love about each of the clothing and/or accessories you wore?

SS: Overall, I love the periwinkle (lavender) color that is the Pantone color of 2022, which represents joy and creativity. Christy Lynn, the designer of my dress, is a Houston-based sustainable luxury brand.

MW: What do you suggest people do to elevate their fashion choices?

FM: I have always suggested three things to add to a person’s fashion:

Layering in pieces also adds to any outfit, whether vest, sweater, cardigans, or a denim jacket/vest. Creating layers adds more depth even in the summer.
2. Accessories like pocket squares, glasses, bracelets, watches, and rings add to your look, but be aware of limits. Doing too much can be just that – too much.
3. Do not be afraid to have one pop of color, meaning don’t be afraid to simplify an outfit with solid colors with one splash of color through an item, not wearing so many colors and patterns but keeping monotone in place for a harder effect.

Samantha Stewart

SS: You can have the most expensive item, but if it doesn’t fit you well, then the clothes are wearing you instead of you wearing the clothes. Spend that little bit to get something hemmed or taken in. And don’t worry about sizes. They are different in every brand. You can always have something taken in if it’s too big versus getting something too small that doesn’t make you feel good about yourself.

MW: Which accessories do you make sure to include in your ensemble? Where do you suggest people shop for these?

SS: Jewelry is one of my favorite parts of an outfit whether is a statement earring or layered necklaces. Fort Worth has amazing places to shop for amazing jewelry. You Are Here, Bachendorfs, and Neiman Marcus have fantastic fine jewelry selections. Hale House and Beehive have fabulous on-trend jewelry. Laude the Label and The Worthy Co have beautiful sustainable jewelry.

FM: Pocket square, bracelet, and watch. I used to recommend brooches, but now I believe the simpler the better. [Frank recommends finding these accessories at Franklin & Anthony and Thirty Fifty.

For 125 years, the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo has remained one of the city’s most anticipated events. It’s a 23-day celebration of heritage, culture, and Western tradition. But most importantly, it’s a fête of style. And with livestock coiffed to the nines, you can’t just throw on a pair of Wrangler’s and call it a day. So, we’ve scoured the web to create a roundup of fashion inspiration from locally owned boutiques and shops that are sure to have you looking ace-high.

Spring and summer travel means fun, bright colors that put you in a carefree state of mind. We learned from our visit with stylists from Neiman Marcus Fort Worth that the big trends this year include floral dresses, stripes, statement sleeves, rainbow jewelry, and a pointed-toe shoe. That sounds lovely, but how can you pack all of that?

Our fashion contributor, Nicole Shaffer, happens to be the perfect spokesperson for great travel fashion. Her day job includes spotting the hottest trends and incorporating them into the modern woman’s wardrobe, all while traveling. Her style is always timeless, yet never boring. This issue’s assignment took her to Meacham Airport, where the redesigned administration building with a balcony overlooking the tarmac was the perfect backdrop for an inspiring view of private travel. You may not be boarding your private Learjet to the south of France or flying off to the Caribbean this season, but these looks that Nicole pulled together will make you feel like you are!

1. You’re planning your dream vacation somewhere warm and tropical. What are must haves?
Gucci, Illesteva, or Givenchy sunglasses, good sunscreen, and of course, hats. Luna makes the most beautiful wide brim hat. I love Solid and Striped one-piece swimsuits and O’Neill’s solid bikinis. They will take you from wake boarding to lazing with a drink. I love a Lisa Marie Fernandez swimsuit, and Rebecca De Ravenel’s pieces are so tropical! Go for a woven bag this season. Top handles are very chic; a STAUD bucket is the season’s “It” bag, Cult Gaia (pictured) is a favorite, too. ‘70s dresses and caftans from vintage/resale shops with a Greek strappy sandal top my list for date nights. Breezy Luna dresses and tunics with white denim are my daytime must-haves.

2. You’re taking a quick weekend trip and only want to take a carryon. What pieces do you bring?
Pack layers! A colorful scarf, a pashmina, and lightweight dresses are your friend. Sacrifice shoes to have a few extra accessories to make an outfit. I just did a quick weekend in Carmel, and two pairs of strappy sandals, a Gucci scarf, a black tuxedo romper, a few lightweight dresses, one pair of jeans, and a Talbots blazer were perfect for a weekend with multiple events. Take only toiletries that are essential and use what your hotel has to offer. I’m obsessed with a travel line called Paravel. It’s affordable with all the essentials to pack in cubes to stay organized! I have my eye on a monogrammed leather pouch from The Daily Edited (tde.).

3. How do you look professional, yet fashionable and comfortable for a work conference?
Layers, always! I travel weekly, and I don’t board a flight without a Talbots blazer, colorful suede driving mocs, and a pashmina. I typically fly in pants. I love a light-weight, raw silk “Genie pant”. You’re dressed up while essentially in pjs. I also love a silk blouse. While pointy toe heels are my work go-to, save your feet in the airport. Wear your mocs and change to heels at your destination.

4. You said “yes” to Disneyworld. How do you not overpack for the family?
You can’t wear more than one outfit a day. T-shirts and comfy shoes. If you’re going during winter, pack layers that you can fold into a backpack. For kids, Zara and Gap have cute Disney apparel. Moms, grab your favorite sneakers and wear these the entire time. Jeans, shorts, light-weight knits, and a boyfriend cardigan for when it cools down. Plan your days based on the park you’re visiting, and pack one outfit per day. Adults should carry a backpack or crossbody. Think utilitarian when planning your Disney trip, and you will have the time of your life!

5. You have a Girls’ Trip planned for a SF or NYC. What are your go-to items for touring and nightlife?
San Francisco can be chilly, so again, pack layers. Mules are in and are ideal for walking miles. A pair of high-waisted denim pants; Gap has some fabulous options. Easy knits, blazers, and a cardigan, as well as a dress for a fancy evening. A silk romper can be worn a blazer for daytime then transformed with strappy sandals and a scarf for evening. Fun earrings or chunky gold hoops complete the look. Bring a hat: wool for fall/winter and straw for spring/summer. A hat will protect your skin, and as a bonus, you look chic and don’t have to worry about your hair!

6. You’re traveling internationally. How do you not look “touristy”?
Sensible shoes: mules or Superga sneakers, knit dresses, a beautiful scarf, and a few solid pashminas. While I adore prints, you don’t want lots of luggage, so pack solid knit dresses and keep your accessories colorful. Again, a pair of sunglasses, hats, and SPF are essential!

7. You book an overnight flight. How can you look rested, even if you aren’t?
I spritz myself with rosewater. Pack a heavier moisturizer for face and hands. Flights are dehydrating! Fly sans makeup, if possible. Drink water and nix salt to avoid feeling puffy. Flights are typically freezing, so an easy swing cardigan, Madewell t-shirt, and flowing pants with sandals or sneakers are perfect. Or try a sweater, scarf, comfy jeans, and mules. Regardless the destination, always pack layers!
