Supporting Those Who Support Us
“Are these mood swings?”
Lately, between the Great Resignation, Great Renegotiation, and the Great Exhaustion, Fort Worthians are more in touch with their feelings than ever before. “Before the pandemic and politics of the last few years, people were already feeling torn, conflicted, and unsure. The stressors of the last three years kicked it into overdrive,” Dr. Brian Dixon shared with Madeworthy.
“Servicing the needs of Texas required me to think outside the box. I am here today because of fantastic physician-led administrators and support staff. I’d like to share that with the nation.”
Thus Simply Psych was born.
“We have amazing clinical experts in Fort Worth. But sometimes you don’t see it because the clinician lacks a website (marketing), a streamlined intake process (operations), or can’t afford to provide the conveniences we’re accustomed to (finances). So I spun these roles into a stand alone practice management company that we called Simply Psych.”
Helping helpers help is a mantra for this local “startup.” With clients across the nation, Dr. Dixon and his team are helping potential patients find their best fit clinicians at the same time they support clinicians in the business back-office.
“Burnout among mental health clinicians is high and every time one of us resign, retires, or quits, it sends shock waves through the mental health ecosystem. This harms patients and colleagues because we often only get a few tries with folks before they stop believing in us and themselves.”
For example, Dr. Dixon’s private practice Mindful (a dba of Progressive Psychiatry, www.findmindful.com) has an expert in bipolar disorder, Dr. David Marvin. As a board certified adult psychiatrist, he specializes in “mood swings,” taking the time and attention to tease apart other conditions that mimic the “ups and downs” of sudden behavioral changes.
“Doing a good psychiatric evaluation takes a ton of time, a resource that most psychiatrists can’t have because they have to do 5-10 minute med-check visits to meet their bottom line,” Dr. Dixon mentions. As a client of Simply Psych, Mindful’s back-office has new efficiencies that allow physicians like Dr. Marvin to give his patients his undivided attention for a full 30-60 minutes.
Growth and access are more critical than ever. Research indicates that multiple traumatic events in a person’s life increase the presence and severity of PTSD symptoms as well as other psychological and behavioral disorders, and we are all well aware that the last few years have proven to be increasingly trauma-filled for everyone. Expanding their umbrella to cover other solutions than just meds and therapy, Simply Psych supports a new integrative psychiatry practice by Dr. Chelsea Angelocci called Centered FW. Born out of a need to incorporate other supplements and options into the traditional psychiatry model, Dr. Angelocci hopes that her comprehensive approach to mental health wellness resonates with people looking for more options.
Centered FW will office out of the new Restore + Revive Wellness Center at 4927 Byers Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76107 starting in July. Dr. Angelocci is actively accepting new patients (www.CenteredFW.com) with back office practice support from Simply Psych.
“At the end of the day, rested focused therapists and psychiatrists mean they provide better care,” Dr Dixon remarked. “We’re building a local team to serve patients nationwide. I call that a win.”
We at Madeworthy agree.
