Learn to Swim Like a Frog
Summer is fast approaching. Time for fun in the sun and plenty of pool time for the kiddos.
Whether the pool is mostly just for fun frolicking, your kids compete on a summer swim team, or they have never been in a pool, it’s time to think about dusting off the swimming cobwebs and getting those kids into the swing (or swim) of things. The best way we know to do this is get your kids signed up for swim lessons at TCU. Whether they are just starting out, or they are six-year veterans of a swim team, working with the instructors and head TCU swimming coach, Richard Sybesma, will get them on the right path while they build their skills and confidence in a safety-first environment.
For beginning swimmers, they will work on overcoming the fear of water while they learn to float on their backs and fronts, kicking with a kickboard, and beginning freestyle and backstroke.
For intermediate and pre-competitive swimmers, lessons will focus on freestyle, rhythmic breathing techniques, backstroke, front dives, and treading water effectively. One of the goals is to swim the length of the pool using proper technique.
Advanced lessons are for kids who can swim freestyle with rhythmic breathing and backstroke for 25 yards. They will work on breast stroke and butterfly, flip turns, and endurance. Your child will get a great workout as they learn to swim the four strokes correctly.
All of these lessons take place over a two-week session that meets Monday through Thursday, for a total of eight intensive lessons. They even have sessions of combined lessons for families with swimmers at different levels
For your swimmers who are on competitive teams, TCU offers a one-week stroke clinic that focuses on honing your swimmer’s strokes as well as starts and flip turns. This is a great refresher for veteran team swimmers who haven’t been in the water in 7 or 8 months to get back in the groove so they can pick up some blue ribbons this summer.
All of these lessons take place in the incredible heated indoor pool at the TCU recreation center.
Session times are as follows:
Session 1: May 15-25
Session 2: May 30-June 8
Beginner: 3:15-3:55, Intermediate: 4:00-4:40, Advanced: 4:45-5:25
