We Can Do It! Girls Inc. of Tarrant County Hosts Women in Construction Day
Girls Inc. of Tarrant County (GITC) celebrated International Women’s Day by teaching girls about construction, engineering and car maintenance. Approximately 30 girls, ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, participated in the ‘Women in Construction’ day as part of its popular Second Saturday program. The empowering event was held at the GITC facility located at 304 E Vickery Blvd., in Fort Worth.
The four-hour workshop, designed to introduce girls to “strong careers,” featured engaging 45-minute rotations that provided hands-on experience in construction, budgeting projects and essential car care skills. Led by members of the National Association of Women in Construction and automotive marketing professional and car enthusiast Kristin Cline of Grease Girl, the event allowed girls to work together, learn and explore potential careers they may have not previously considered.
“Creating a space where girls feel safe and excited to learn about topics they may not otherwise be exposed to is what Girls Inc. of Tarrant County is all about,” said Jennifer Limas, President and CEO of GITC. “Showing girls they can be strong, smart, and bold, even in fields traditionally occupied by men, opens their eyes and minds to possibilities! It’s giving them confidence to know they can do anything they set out to do.”

Participants delved into practical activities that fostered problem-solving and critical thinking, including engineering design challenges and fundamental car maintenance skills.
GITC’s Second Saturday program is a free monthly initiative aimed at building girls’ confidence and providing diverse learning opportunities in career exploration, health science, art, and more.
