First, the winner of this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge PGA tour event at Colonial in Fort Worth will receive $1.35 million from $7.5 million purse, the iconic Leonard Trophy and the Scottish royal tartan plaid jacket, of course. But they will also get the rights to a 1946 Schwab Power Wagon.

The prize was unveiled shortly after the firm announced a four-year extension of its title PGA TOUR sponsorship at Colonial Country Club though 2026.

The 1946 “resto-mod” classic truck, an homage to the year professional golf was first played at the historic Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, was fully restored and customized by Legacy Classic Trucks and Winslow Bent. Under the hood is a 6.2-liter engine with over 430hp, and a 4-speed automatic transmission and custom transfer case. It rides on a set of 40-inch custom, trail-ready tires.

The original truck has been modernized with air-conditioning, disc brakes, a long travel suspension, a 12,000 lb., winch and custom tailgate. It also features the signature Schwab Blue paint. A fully renovated and customized 1973 Dodge® Challenger was awarded to the tournament’s 2019 champion, Kevin Na.

The unique interior treatment highlights Colonial’s traditional Tartan pattern fabric. A custom winner’s name plate on the dashboard acknowledges legend Ben Hogan’s win in 1946. A film on the restoration process can be viewed here.

The prize will be displayed at this year’s Charles Schwab Challenge, May 27-30, at Colonial. It was revealed at a special event at the course with the company’s chairman, Charles Schwab, Bent, and TV personality and nationally-syndicated iHeartRadio host, Bobby Bones.

Inspired by the 1946 Schwab Power Wagon, country music singer and songwriter, Travis Denning, released a new, original song on Bobby Bones’ May 21 “Bobbycast” podcast – “Grew Up with a Truck.” The new prize is also featured in a music video for the song that was released at today’s reveal event.

“We knew we wanted to do something special for the tournament’s milestone 75^th anniversary, and the ’46 Schwab Power Wagon and Travis’ new song were a perfect way to honor this event’s proud legacy, all things Texas, and our commitment to this community,” said Mason Reed, senior vice president of Retail Acquisition and Corporate Marketing at Schwab. “We are excited to continue our latest tradition of awarding a show-stopping, one-of-a-kind Champion’s prize here at Colonial and are honored to extend our partnership with this tournament for another four years.”

Given the tournament’s return to the Memorial Day weekend after a three-week postponement in 2020, this year’s event will also pay tribute to the members of the U.S. military who gave their lives in service to their country. During play on Sunday, May 30, at 2:00 p.m. CDT, a moment of silence will be observed on the course, accompanied by a flyover of military aircraft to further mark the solemn occasion.

Those of you who have lived in Fort Worth for a while know that Mayfest is the most fun family friendly festival in town! It is so large that you can come back day after day for more! From May 3rd through 6th, there will be three dedicated music stages playing live music of every genre, the Tom Thumb/Albertsons Children’s Area with more than 20 free activities geared toward children ages 3 to 12, the Midway, the giant human maze, and the zip line. This is always so much fun, and the money that is raised goes to enhancing our Trinity River and surrounding parks and community.

The Clearfork Spring Market is happening on Saturday, May 12th beginning at 8am. The family-friendly outdoor event will have merchants, artisans, free family activities, and yard games to enjoy in addition to your favorite farmers market vendors you can usually find there.

On Saturday, May 12th, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden is hosting Mother’s Day High Tea from 2 to 4 pm. Treat your mom, wife, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, or friend with a selection of teas, finger sandwiches, pastries, and sweets. Live harp music and beautiful views of the historic rose garden will be an afternoon she’ll never forget. Reserve your tickets, as seating is limited.

Beginning May 26th the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History presents Grossology. Explore the slimy side of humans and animals through fun interactive and oozy exhibits. Bring the whole family and learn something new in a fun way!

Finally, it’s time for the Fort Worth Invitational at the Colonial. The PGA tour returns May 21st through 27th. Grab a spot on the green of your favorite hole or follow your favorite player through the course. It’s a great way to introduce young ones to golf while enjoying the sport yourself.

Growing up in Fort Worth one of my most vivid and favorite memory of a time I spent with my granddad is during Mayfest. One year probably close to 1982, we were sitting on the banks of the Trinity River waiting for the tug o’ war between KXAS Channel 5 and KVIL Radio station to begin.  I don’t remember where my parents, brother, and sister were or who won or who I was even routing for, but I remember trying a Pulido’s tamale for the first time and my granddad telling me how good it was.  This memory and many others from Mayfest are very special to me.  Mayfest is celebrating their 45^th anniversary this year from May 4^th through the 7^th! I don’t think you can eat a Pulido’s tamale there, and I didn’t see a tug o’ war across the Trinity River in the schedule, but there are new and just-as-memorable things to do, see, and eat!  They still have the children’s area geared towards children ages 3-12.  (Just so you know, this areas closes at 7:30 every night.) The rest of the grounds will be open until 10pm except on Sunday, when the fun ends at 7pm.  You should come out and enjoy some live music, watch some entertaining performances, shop in the Art & Gift Market, and have some family fun.  Mayfest brings experiences like no other festival in town.  Your children will remember the fun for a lifetime; I know I’ll never forget it.  Here is a link to the online guide, which includes the huge list of live acts that will be preforming and their times and locations.

Cinco de Wag-O will be May 6^th at the all-new Wag Canine Emporium! This will be a grand opening of their new space, and they are celebrating big time.  Family friendly activities include paw painting with A Piece of Work, food trucks, and adoptable dogs from 9am till 3pm.  There will be Q&As with local veterinarians, show and tell with the Fort Worth K9 Police Division, and a demonstration.  Your dog can also have fun enjoying the doggie water park area.   They will have Chimy’s Taco Truck, Sweet Sammies, and FREE margaritas! Also on May 6^th  you can continue to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at the 2^nd annual El Fuerte Fort Worth Taco Fest at Panther Island Pavilion.  This fun event will take place from 12pm-7pm.  There will be tacos, of course, along with other food from area restaurants and food trucks in a celebrity judged competition, live music, theatrical performances, vendors, DJs, and more.  New for this year, they have added a chance for YOU to judge and pick Best Overall Taco, and a super fun Kids Zone sponsored by Rosa’s Café!  VIP tickets get you into the air-conditioned bar and air-conditioned bathrooms.  Buy tickets here.  Last year it sold out, so don’t wait too long!  Children of all ages are welcome, and 5 and under are free!

On Friday May 12^th and Saturday the 13^th the Frontier Forts Muster (formerly known as Frontier Forts Day) will be happening from 10am-4pm in the Fort Worth Stockyards.  The whole area will be transformed into an authentic representation of Texas frontier life.  This free event will be a wonderful learning experience for your children and is highly recommended as a way to teach them what life was like long ago through precise wagons, flags, music, uniforms, and military gear.  More information can here!

Panther Island Brewing is holding Crafts and Crafts at the brewery!  Sunday May 21^st from 12-6 stop by and shop local artists creations and businesses while enjoying delicious beer!

Beginning May 24^th is the Dean & DeLuca Invitational.  The Colonial Country Club golf course is beautiful, and the PGA golf will be exciting to watch. I can’t wait to see my favorite Texas Longhorn, Jordon Spieth, compete! If you’d like to bring a purse, they must be clear, not exceeding 12 x6 x 12, and cell phones are permitted but must be on silent and can only be used in the cell phone designated areas.  Strollers and baby supplies are permitted, as well. Kids 12 and under are free, and youth tickets are available for those aged 13-17!  Here is where you can find some tickets!

Finally, beginning May 27^th the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History will be hosting Adventures with Clifford the Big Red Dog.  It sounds so cute and fun that even if your child is unfamiliar with Clifford, they will still enjoy the exhibit!  Your little ones will begin their journey taking the ferry over to Birdwell Island.  They can sit in the captain’s chair to steer the ship’s wheel and enter the world of Clifford and Emily Elizabeth! Don’t forget that Monkey and Dog Bookstore has a fabulous story time every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 am.  All ages are welcome to come and listen to some wonderful books in this little gem of a bookshop located inside of Feastivities Gourmet-to-Go Market on W. Vickery.
