Tanglewood Moms Gives Back: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Tarrant County
With a little help, all children can achieve success in life.
With a mission to provide children with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever, Big Brothers Bigs Sisters of Greater Tarrant County has been making a difference in the lives of children like Jacob for decades.
Little Brother Jacob and Big Sister Melinda have been matched for over five years. Through their match, Melinda has been Jacob’s strongest supporter and greatest defender. With Melinda’s mentorship, Jacob has been able to expand his horizons and experience new things like going on scavenger hunts and learning about gardening. Jacob even received a scholarship for one week at Camp Carter through the YMCA with the encouragement and support of Melinda. As their relationship developed, Jacob began to explore new interests and show more focus and commitment towards school. Last spring, Melinda even helped get Jacob signed up to take a practice SAT test! This may not seem like a big step, but nationally, 60% of high school students and only 45% of low-income students enroll in post-secondary education. Of high school seniors in our programs, over 92% either enrolled in college or trade school, enlisted in the military or were employed. Mentorship matters and can change the trajectory of a child’s life.
All children have potential and can achieve success. We hope that you, your family and friends will join us in becoming defenders of that potential. Your gift directly impacts the children of Tarrant County, helping them dream of higher aspirations, grow greater confidence, avoid risky behaviors and increase their educational success. You can also join Big Brothers Big Sisters by becoming a mentor. With over 700 children waiting for a Big Brother or Sister, YOU could be the person that inspires a child, helping them reach their full potential.
Join with us today, and make a BIG impact on your community. To volunteer your time or to make a donation. You can make a difference!
