Want to avoid the “summer slide”? Want to keep your child on or above their current grade level this summer? Many parents and students hold dearly to the belief that summer is a time for a complete mental break from the rigors of school. While it is important to take breaks to improve performance, summer is too long a break to allow students to go without academic stimulation! The consequences of this extended academic furlough can be detrimental, especially to students already struggling during the school year. Did you know that at the beginning of a new school year teachers often spend up to 6 weeks re-teaching previously learned material because most kids have already forgotten it over the summer?
Summer Academics Can:
1. Help kids retain information they already learned last year.
2. Help kids strengthen their understanding of learned information from last and previous years.
3. Help kids prepare for the new information they will be learning next year.
4. Help kids catch up and focus on the things that they may have struggled with during the school year.
My name is Stephanie Plotner. I am a kindergarten teacher at Tanglewood Elementary. I will be doing one-on-one tutoring this summer for current kindergarten, first, and second grade students in Fort Worth. I will come to your home, or we can meet at the library! We will work on the basics – reading, writing, math, etc. If there is something more specific that you are interested in working on, just let me know, so I can make a plan for the best way to target that specific area of need. The first session is an assessment of your child’s strengths and weaknesses in order to tailor a plan for your child’s specific needs.
I will be available this summer M-F from 10am-4pm. The charge is $50 an hour. If you are interested, please email me at Stephanie.firstname.lastname@example.org or call/text me at 682-465-8638. Once I have a rough estimate of how many slots I will need, I will create a Signup Genius for you to go and pick dates and times! I will be out of town July 6-13th, so I will not have any slots available July 4-15th. There will be a total of 8 weeks available. If there is an overwhelming need, I will add more spots.
