The New Year reminds us of all the things we want to be: successful, good parents, loving, kind, and healthy. That last one can be a little tricky, especially with kids, work, and all the other curve balls life has an inevitable way of throwing our way.

Photo courtesy of Profile by Sanford

But tucked away near the Tanglewood neighborhood (and my go-to, Trader Joe’s) is Profile by Sanford. The franchise’s Fort Worth location isn’t a weight loss company, it’s a better lifestyle company. And it uses scientific research alongside technology to provide its members with one-on-one support to reach health goals that might have seemed like only daydreams.

That starts with the idea of “non-scale victories.” Those are big life changes members experience that have nothing to do with how much they weigh. Those victories are things like mood improvement, increased energy, mental focus, and sleep. Now, let’s let that last one really sink in and think about sleep — the kind of rest that makes the next day amazing and gives people the energy to be productive and live their best lives.

According to Harvard Medical School, research suggests that sleep plays an important role in memory creation and inadequate sleep negatively impacts mood, judgement, and ambition to do things — like getting off the couch! Good sleep matters, and losing weight and changing the way you eat can make life so much better.

Photo courtesy of Profile by Sanford

“Our big thing is why wait?” said Molly Williams, Manager of Operations. “The best time is now.”

Easy to say. Hard to do.

Change of any kind takes work and support. Even when we know it’s the “right thing” to do, all the “wrong things” we normally do get in the way. For me, that’s a copious consumption of chocolate and sitting for hours in front of my computer. Or going out and buying a new dress when I need to save the money for a new car instead. Alas, change.

True change means forming new habits and keeping them up for an extended period of time, says Molly. The biggest challenge her members have isn’t losing weight, it’s being ready for change. “Our most successful members coach with us long-term through all the phases even after they hit their goals,” said Molly. And long-term commitments makes those changes stick.

Molly and her team work with over 200 members to accomplish life goals that are much greater than any number on the scale.“I hear members say, ‘I want to be here for my grandchildren. I don’t want to be like my parents,’” said Molly.

Photo courtesy of Profile by Sanford

Those members are people like Robin McLarry.

Robin, 49, joined Profile in March of 2019 and has lost a total of 72 pounds so far in her journey. “I joined Profile because I needed help losing weight and getting healthy before I turn 50 in April. This program has worked for me because I’ve had to hold myself accountable — meeting with the coaches each week has helped me stay that way,” said Robin. “My problem was that I was eating out way too much; I just let myself go,” she said. “And I was one of those people who didn’t want to workout.”

Robin joined a gym in 2019 and gradually started working out more with the help of her support system at Profile. “I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone; now I go to the gym four-to-five times a week.”

Even though the majority of members at Profile are women, young men like Zane Miller are changing their lives early on by changing their lifestyle. Zane, 20, has lost 107 pounds. The college student no longer has hypertension, and his blood pressure has stabilized.

“The biggest reason I would say it worked is the biweekly meetings with my coaches. It really pushed me to be the best I could be with the constant positive affirmation from Coach Kelsi and Coach Molly,” said Zane. “Staying committed to the process and becoming serious about my weight loss journey were big factors in making it all happen.”

He says one of his biggest challenges (and food temptations) was Sunday lunches. “Since moving to Texas, we travel every Sunday back to eat with my grandparents. I would see myself getting tempted to make the wrong decisions. At the beginning, the major personal challenge would be just getting into the mindset of doing the diet. Really, choosing to start the diet was just the beginning, following the diet was when it got serious,” Zane said.

Getting serious about living your best life, for Zane and Robin, started with Profile. And that start was a new beginning in more ways than one. These Profile members are now healthier, happier, and look forward to each day in a new way.

Membership to Profile is like a partnership for success. It includes your food, smart body scale, a precise DNA test, a water bottle, blender bottle, cook book, journey book, and one-on-one coaching — and that one-on-one coaching makes all the difference in the world.

“Everyone has the potential to make healthy lifestyle changes,” said Kelsi Matlock, Profile Store Manager. “But with the one-on-one coaching, we are able to help facilitate, encourage, and hold the member accountable to these changes so they last a lifetime.

Our understanding of nutrition has come a long way through technology and scientific breakthroughs. Rather than following set guidance for a period of time in order to achieve a goal weight, individuals and families seeking to transform their health now have someone in their corner invested in their success throughout the journey and beyond.

Photo courtesy of Profile by Sanford

Sanford Health – the nation’s largest non-profit health care system – developed Profile Weight Loss & Health Coaching from research and development throughout their vast network with the goal of ending diets. Jeff Pechiney, a local entrepreneur, recently opened a location in Tanglewood’s Trinity Commons because he believes in the personalized weight loss program. Pechiney was looking for a new business to dig into and was attracted to Sanford’s backing of the program, “Everything we do is backed by extensive research and our coaches are here to hold members accountable and keep them on track.”

With extensive training, coaches bring a broad range of insights to pass on to members. Profile coaching rooms are the centerpiece of the regular weekly sessions, where depending on the session, the client and their personal struggle, they can range from a classroom for healthful lessons to a locker room for encouraging pep talks. One notices quickly the portion-sized visualization tools illustrating appropriate amounts of proteins and carbs.

Profile seeks to change the way people understand time and energy to benefit, not only their own physical and mental state now, but to extend longevity for years to come. To fully realize this process, clients receive Smart Body Scales that store data on seven key measurements, which allows real-time tracking of their progress alongside their coaches through the App on their smartphone. Members also receive genetic testing to determine how their body metabolizes carbs – a key to personalized nutrition plans.

Improved sleep hygiene and stress management both significantly influence metabolization, a key to this process for Pechiney is breaking down stress’s impact on our diet, “We can all use insight into switching off the stress responses we often aren’t aware of that may lead us to make poor decisions with regards to our nutritional goals.”

Kelsi Lionberger, Manager of Operations often collaborates with clients on new ways to reward themselves, “For example, the answer to rewards for celebrating milestones often shifts away from food.” The biggest challenges are often found in entertainment when it can be difficult to balance eating and drinking. Profile coaches help navigate these options in order to optimize health objectives. Lionberger adds, “A lot of businessmen need help eating out and making smart decisions with the menu in hand. We want them to be able to take a client out to lunch and still order food that is on their plan.”

Whether family gatherings, social events or dining out, food plays a role in our lives on both ends of the emotional spectrum. The journey of reinvention starts with behavioral change, as Pechiney points out, “It is important for us to take a look at our habits in order to successfully improve our lives.”

In tailoring a personalized nutrition, activity and lifestyle plan, Lionberger starts simple, “I often ask members to tell me more about their journey so far.” This includes any barriers and helps them set target heart rate, weight, and fat percentage thresholds for the year-long partnership.

Using Tom Thumb as a hands-on workshop, coaches teach members how to make smart choices with regards to groceries, healthy rewards, and portion control. Clear about what works, Profile helps clients internalize habits by learning about nutrition, guidance that can prove transformative for consumers trapped in bad nutritional cycles. Lionberger continues, “We’ll look at three different kinds of peanut butter to show them the importance of nutritional literacy.”

A few weeks ago we told you about Profile by Sanford and the amazing results they are able to help their clients achieve.

Now we’re going to follow that article up with some real talk. If your New Year’s resolution was to lose some weight and get healthy we hope you’re well on your way to reaching your goals. If you’re like many people, you started the year strong. Now suddenly it’s February. The gym at 5AM has lost its luster and those kale shakes and that celery juice are starting to make you gag.

You’ve proven you’re motivated by doing the workouts and preparing the healthy meals. However, motivation waxes and wanes. What you need help with is consistency. Your Profile coach will develop customized eating, exercise and lifestyle plans just for you. These plans are backed by exhaustive research and a very high success rate. Ultimately, you know being motivated to eat better and exercise more will get you results over time. The missing piece is doing it consistently. This is where the Profile coaches really shine. This is the Profile difference.

Have you ever taught yourself a new skill? Playing an instrument, snow skiing, tennis? With hard work and dedication, the new skills slowly emerge. If you employ a music teacher, a ski instructor or a tennis coach, however, the time it takes you to master those skills will be cut
drastically! Why? Because the expert is able to steer you away from the mistakes, make adjustments to the things that still need work and apply praise and focus to the things you’re doing right. Their guidance helps you remain consistent in your practice as you develop your new skill.

Adjusting your lifestyle requires a skill set like any other venture you might choose to undertake.Having an expert leading you is the fastest and most efficient way to reach your goals. By the way, in case you haven’t spotted it yet, the location of the Tanglewood Profile by Sanford is right next to Tom Thumb. Not only is this a highly convenient location for just about anyone in Fort Worth, Profile coaches often take their clients next door and go through the grocery shopping experience with them. This mentoring opportunity teaches about healthy food options and instills good choices. A great piece of advice consistently given by Profile coaches is to stick to the outer rim of the grocery stores, as this is where the foundational foods in a healthy diet are found. Fruits, veggies, meat, and dairy typically line the outer perimeter of
most major grocery stores.

Making systemic changes can be tough. It’s a lot tougher trying to do it by yourself. The good news is it’s never too late to start or, if needed, to restart the process. And it’s never too late to get the help needed to finally do it the right way. Stop in at 3000 S. Hulen, call 817-508-9961 or click this link to get started. And don’t forget to mention this article when you stop by for a free box of Profile salad dressing!
